Amazing news for the most widely distributed sea turtle species in the world - the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). After decades and decades of conservation efforts which started and spread since the 1950’s , last month the IUCN Assessment on the species down-listed it to Least Concern (Oct 2025), as it rebounded to approximately 28% increase ✅ since the 1970’s. A big win to celebrate. 🎊 🐢!

All our program sites are different and special. Here, at the Osa In Water Program, in the tranquil embrace of Golfo Dulce, humpback whale mothers and calves find sanctuary.
These critical nursery areas and deep maternal bonds are vital for their survival—and remind us why protecting these coastal waters is so essential. 🐋💙 ”

Although looking for nesting sea turtles or waiting for the morning to monitor them at their feeding grounds is the main objective, because our field sites are isolated, with little light contamination, it’s hard not to be distracted by the beauty of the night! Here our home galaxy, the Milky Way containing at least 100 billion stars.
In fact, we can see here the Galactic Center! That very dense, cloudy section in the middle of the image is the actual center of our Galaxy, in Sagittarius.
