According to the World Health Organization, 2 out of 3 people in low-income countries who need eyeglasses don’t have access to them.

For millions of people, something as simple as a pair of glasses could transform their lives, helping children learn better in school, and adults navigate their lives more safely.

That’s why here at SEE, we are constantly working to expand access to essential eyecare and vision services for patients around the world. 💙

“Patients who were blind in both eyes required special care, completely lost and dependent on others. After surgery, everything changed.” 💙

Our partners at Johnson & Johnson recently sent one of their team members, Tomek, to join a SEE program in Namibia, where he witnessed volunteers come together to restore sight for 336 patients.

Tomek described the experience as deeply emotional and unforgettable. Watching as patients took their first independent steps after surgery, singing and dancing in celebration, was especially inspiring for him.

“In the end, it became clear that we are all the same. Regardless of where we live in the world, we want the same things: health, safety, and the feeling that someone cares for us," said Tomek. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, partners and supporters who make this vital work possible!

There’s no better celebration than the joy of seeing clearly again!

After receiving sight-restoring surgeries in Namibia, these patients broke into dance! 💃❤️

At the center of our partnerships and work are the dedicated professionals who bring care, expertise, and compassion to every patient they serve. Their commitment is what transforms resources into real impact.

Dr. Pratima Rajak has been an optometrist at Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital (SGLEH) for 14 years. Living with chronic rheumatoid arthritis since childhood, she has never allowed her condition to limit her dedication to her patients. Her career was made possible through local training opportunities supported by SEE International and Johnson & Johnson, and today she plays an essential role in diagnosing and providing care to patients in need.

Dr. Rajak expressed sincere gratitude for the training she has received as well as the opportunity to serve the community through her work at SGLEH:

“Whatever I learn from this hospital—the knowledge and the wisdom—I’m very happy. I’m going to take this forward,” she said.

Support from SEE and Johnson & Johnson allows individuals like Dr. Rajak to build their careers while strengthening entire systems of care.

SEE's Stanford Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) course that took place last month was a huge success!

While the initial goal was to train 12 people during the course, increased interest allowed us to expand and train a total of 15 participants in this invaluable technique.

Excitingly, our Warehouse Coordinator Donato traveled with our Warehouse Manager Diego for the first time to assist with the course logistics and lab setup! With three months of preparation to ensure all eight scopes and supplies were ready, their coordination played a key role in the course’s success. Donato’s participation also marked an important step in expanding SEE’s capacity, as we now have two trained lab technicians to support future MSICS courses. Special thanks to Donato and Diego for their hard work!

A SEE team recently traveled to Santa Elena, Belize, where they restored sight to 84 people under the leadership of volunteer ophthalmologist Dr. Julio Narvaez. The team performed 79 cataract and 5 pterygium procedures for patients who would otherwise be unable to access care.

Now, these individuals can move through their daily lives with greater independence. The joy of restored vision was immediate for many patients, with some even dancing in celebration!
