The bees were busy the last few months! Thanks to our unusual approach in managing our bees, our hives did much better than the national average. More than half the commercial hives in the US died over the winter. Personally, we attribute our success to no supplemental feeding, no pesticides and no plastic frames. Our girls have to be tough, and they pick the strongest genetics to keep their hive going all year long!
The hives were absolutely packed to the gills with bees, comb and honey. We’re hoping we’ll get some spring honey to share with our customers—lots of clover around here right now and the flavor of the honey will reflected that!
Watch our resident mixologist finish and serve this delightful drink!
A fun way to use Mapleton Honey—a Gold Rush cocktail! Featuring lemon juice, bourbon/rye and your favorite honey.

Before we closed the hives up for the winter, we managed to get a few extra frames of honey. Reagan says it’s a slightly different flavor than the spring honey—“a little tangy!”
As always, our bees make their own comb, with no plastic foundation, and forage all their own food. No sugar or high fructose corn syrup around here!
If you’d like to find out yourself if there’s a different flavor, leave a comment below or send us a message!
