Today is World Refugee Day around the world. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego has proclaimed today as World Refugee Day right here in Phoenix! 💛

Phoenix is proud to have supported thousands of refugees from countries across the globe. We commend both the remarkable courage of refugees and the commitment of public agencies, private organizations, employers, volunteers, and community partners in Phoenix who work tirelessly to overcome cultural, linguistic, and economic barriers—restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity."

Crisis creates distance: distance from safety, from stability and from each other.
But whether someone lives three doors down or three thousand miles away, the distance between us is smaller than we think.

This World Refugee Day, we all can close the distance by recognizing that what connects us is stronger than what divides us. The search for refuge, dignity and belonging is not foreign. It is familiar.

At a moment when the rhetoric around refugees is growing louder and support is under strain, how we respond matters. This , share this post and join us in leading with our shared humanity.

🌍 Join Us in Community: Volunteer Opportunity on June 23rd
Phoenix Refugee Connections is invited to partner with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) for a meaningful day of community-centered service at our upcoming food distribution on June 23rd. We would love to have you join us!

This opportunity is about showing up for one another: supporting access to food in a way that honors people’s dignity, cultures, and lived experiences. Volunteers will work alongside IRC staff, partners, and community members to help create a welcoming, respectful environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

The opportunity takes place primarily indoors, making it a comfortable and accessible environment for participation.

Volunteer Shifts:
🕗 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Help set up the distribution, check food quality, and repackage items into appropriate portions.
🕙 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Support families during distribution by walking alongside them, helping carry groceries, ensuring households receive the right amount of food, and assisting with cleanup.

Whether you’re able to join for one shift or both, your time and presence make a meaningful difference in helping create a supportive and connected experience for everyone involved.

Save the Date! The United Nations designated June 26th as it marks when the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishments came into effect in 1987. Yet in 2026, over 30 years later, torture continues to permeate societies around the world, despite it being an international crime.

The Arizona International Rescue Committee’s Survivors of Torture Program invites you to honor Survivors of Torture by participating in a multi-visual showcase, made in partnership with survivors living in Arizona. We hope that this experience helps educate on who survivors of torture are, what they have experienced, and what services are available to them.

The event will be held at Glendale Public Main Library on Friday 6/26, stop in anytime 11AM-4PM. Please join us!

Volunteers will help families access free clothing, toys, supplies, and other resources at the resource fair.
