Today commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and marks a significant moment of freedom in our nation’s history! 🎉 Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that the news of freedom reached more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in Texas.

As we remember this important day, we honor the resilience, faith, and perseverance of those who endured injustice while celebrating the freedom and dignity that God desires for all people. This past Sunday we had an early celebration with red velvet cupcakes after service! Why red velvet? For Juneteenth celebrations, the color red represents the struggle of those who were enslaved, the blood they shed, and ultimately their resilience. ❤️
