Accountability is key for not only the range, but life. If your teacher isn’t keeping track of your progress throughout the day, they’re going through the motions just like you are.

Say their names. Tell their stories. Remember them for who they were.

As the years progress and the sand of time continues to fall, it becomes increasingly difficult to remember their voices, their laugh, and the presence they took up when they entered a room.
~
When we were over there we knew nothing, nor did we care, as to why we were there other than it was a job. All that mattered was completing the mission and more importantly protecting the homie to your left and right.
~
It wasn’t until decades later that the unsettling truth came to the surface, that us, along with every other veteran, was a pawn for profiteers that wear suits and make life/death decisions 1k+ miles away in A/C office buildings. The loudest ones in the room cheering for war, typically have no skin in the game.
~
War is a dirty business and those that end up making the ultimate sacrifice are the best amongst us and do so because of an innate inner calling to become part of the warrior class.
~
For some, Memorial Day isn’t just a single day. It’s every day when they wake up and feel an empty side of the bed, an empty seat at the kitchen table, and the long forgotten belly laughs from the living room.
~
The even more disturbing part that no one wants to talk about is that only 1 of the 4 names on my bracelet actually perished in combat, the remainder was due to the demons they brought home with them or just simply bad luck.
~
