Can your embryo fall out after embryo transfer?

This is one of the most common fears patients have after IVF transfer.

And honestly, I get it.

After everything it takes to get to transfer day, every movement can feel suspicious:

Did I stand up too fast?
Can I p*e?
What if I cough?
Can I walk up stairs?
Did I just mess this up?

The good news: normal movement does not make an embryo fall out.

In this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, we’re talking about the myth of bed rest after embryo transfer, what the evidence actually says, and why patients should not spend the two-week wait blaming themselves for every sneeze, step, or bathroom trip.

Take care of yourself after transfer — but you do not need to treat yourself like a porcelain doll.

Bad advice doesn’t always come from bad people.

Sometimes it comes from reassurance.
Sometimes it comes from trying to save money.
Sometimes it comes from advice that may be fine for one patient but wrong for another.

In fertility, good intentions still need a plan.

In this week’s episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, I talk about how well-meaning fertility advice can still delay care, increase stress, and leave patients wondering if they lost time.

The goal isn’t to distrust every doctor. The goal is to know when reassurance needs a timeline, when waiting needs limits, and when it may be time to ask for a second opinion.

**Bed rest after embryo transfer: helpful or just IVF folklore?**

For years, many patients were told to lie flat after embryo transfer — sometimes for minutes, sometimes for hours, and historically even longer.

It sounds logical: if we just placed an embryo into the uterus, maybe staying still helps it stay there.

But the uterus does not work like that.

In this week’s episode of **Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday**, we break down one of the most common embryo transfer myths: the idea that walking, p*eing, coughing, laughing, or normal activity can make an embryo fall out.

We talk about what the evidence says, what patients can usually do after transfer, when activity restrictions may matter, and why those restrictions are often more about enlarged ovaries after a fresh retrieval — not about the embryo falling out.

If you are in the two-week wait and replaying every sneeze, step, or car bump in your head, this episode is for you.

Bad fertility advice doesn’t always come from bad people.

Sometimes it comes from reassurance.
Sometimes it comes from trying to save money.
Sometimes it comes from advice that may be reasonable for one patient, but wrong for another.

But in fertility, waiting without a plan can cost time.

Advice like “you’re young,” “just keep trying,” or “your labs are normal” may sound comforting — but it may not be a complete fertility evaluation.

Good fertility advice should include:
A reason.
A timeline.
A next step.
And a point where the plan changes.

The goal isn’t to distrust every doctor. The goal is to know when reassurance needs a plan.

Let’s talk about the cup.

A semen analysis may feel awkward, but it is one of the simplest and most useful fertility tests we have.

It can help us understand s***m count, motility, morphology, volume, and total motile s***m count. More importantly, it can help guide the next step: timed in*******se, IUI, IVF, ICSI, repeat testing, or referral to a reproductive urologist.

A few important reminders:

Follow your clinic’s abstinence instructions.
Use the sterile collection cup.
If collecting at home, timing and temperature matter.
If part of the sample is missed, tell the lab.
And one abnormal result does not automatically mean infertility.

A semen analysis is not a masculinity test.

It is just data. And good data helps couples make better fertility decisions.

A semen analysis is one of the most important fertility tests we do — but it is also one of the tests patients feel the most awkward about.

And honestly, I get it. Nobody is excited when the fertility workup comes down to: “Here’s a cup.”

But that cup gives us valuable information.

In this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, I walk through what to expect at a semen analysis appointment from start to finish. We talk about how to prepare, how many days of abstinence are usually recommended, what happens during collection, whether you can collect at home, and why timing matters when bringing the sample to the lab.

We also talk about what happens if things don’t go perfectly — because yes, sometimes part of the sample misses the cup, sometimes someone can’t collect in the office, and sometimes the result comes back abnormal.

The big takeaway: a semen analysis is not a masculinity test. It is not a judgment. It is not a final verdict.

It is data.

And in fertility, good data helps couples make better decisions and avoid wasting time on the wrong treatment path.

Tell me you’re a fertility doctor without telling me you’re a fertility doctor.

Most people see a sculpture.

I see s***m.

And honestly… motility looks questionable.

But this is your reminder: if you’re trying to get pregnant, don’t forget the semen analysis. S***m is half the equation, and it’s one of the easiest tests to do.

Modern art? Maybe.

Male fertility reminder? Absolutely.

🚨 Fertility advice online can be helpful… but sometimes it just scares the taco out of you.

You see one post saying:

“Your doctor missed this.”
“You need this test.”
“Your normal results don’t mean anything.”
“Your failed transfer means something was missed.”

And suddenly you’re spiraling at midnight wondering if one decision ruined everything.

But here’s the truth:
A scary fertility post may contain a small piece of truth — but without context, it can create unnecessary fear.

In this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, we break down fertility fear-mongering, Instagram misinformation, PGT-A, AMH, failed transfers, endometriosis, genetic testing, and why more testing does not always mean better care.

Ask better questions.
Get better answers.
Don’t let fear sell you the next step.
