A picture taken at the 9/11 Healing Field many years ago at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, Arizona.

I still found it fitting for today, Memorial Day. It was an emotionally overwhelming experience then, and it still is every time I visit the field around 9/11. I know these flags represent only a portion of those who gave their lives for so much.

Right now, it feels like the lines are blurred as we continue fighting to be treated fairly, as people, as equals.

Remember that this is an account owned by a photographer and creative who is a Black q***r person, the child of a Jamaican immigrant, and someone whose parents both served in the U.S. military.

In times like this, the flag feels like it’s being torn at the seams between the stars and stripes. Each person for themselves. Each group for itself, instead of fighting for unity.

I’m not saying this to start a conversation. I just want people to feel like we all belong, without code-switching, performing every day, or feeling like simply existing is only acceptable for certain groups, because we don’t live as others do. I want us to believe in and serve one another as a community, not live in fear of each other.

At a time when our community, especially our trans siblings, faces so much resistance, visibility, and choosing to live authentically can become acts of protest in themselves.

Every image on my profile is a statement of existence, resilience, and truth.

With that being said, I’m currently booking sessions through the end of the year, especially for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and entertainers.
