Groundhog day is more than just a classic Bill Murray movie. The day derives from an old Germanic tale that each year a groundhog will poke his head out its den and if he sees his shadow, the winter will last 6 more weeks. But, if it's a cloudy day, and no shadow, we're in for an early spring. You might not want to take his prediction too seriously, as historically his success rate at predicting the weather is only around 40%.

National Bacon Day is celebrated Dec. 30 each year. National Bacon Day is another day on which “meat candy” lovers can enjoy their favorite food. The holiday was created in 1997 as a way to take a break from celebrating the traditional winter holidays.
