The practicing bean jar is full again! My adult violin students put in a bean for each day they practice. When it's full, they vote for a local non-profit that I then donate to on behalf of the studio. This time they chose...Arizona Brainfood!
AzBrainfood discreetly provides backpacks of food to feed hungry school children over the weekends. They work with 125 schools and help over 3,600 kids every week. You can learn more about them at www.azbrainfood.org.
Thanks to the studio for their diligent practicing and for working towards a goal together that helps the community, too ❤
I know most of my posts are about arranging and composing projects, so...surprise! I've actually been teaching an adults only violin studio for the entire past year. I *LOVE* ❤ it.

My "Dulcimer" arrangement was performed last week on a faculty recital at South Dakota State! Thanks to technology, I watched the livestream from an aquarium with my kids over fall break ;) Dr. Emily Toronto requested it in a lower key for mezzo, and I was so excited to hear how it sounded in a new range, someplace warmer and darker than originally written for soprano. Bravi on their performance!

That artist grant I received from AZ last January? Finally came to fruition: premiere was Wed night! The students did *great*!

Benjamin Franklin High School did such a fun job premiering "Southwest Express" last night! The actors *totally* hammed up their roles as tourists, and the orchestra (in addition to their very fine music-making) did great with all the sound effects, "All aboard!" calls, and speaking parts as "locals" in each destination along the way.
I felt very cool seeing text wrap around my headshot, and this lovely lady made my day (month? year?) by sharing an amazing story: When she was in first grade, I gave a mini performance in her school class. She fell in love with violin, has now been taking privately for 8 yrs, and last night she performed in the premiere of my piece *sniff*
