Program Project – Build a New 16’ Oughtred Lapstrake Rowing Boat

The mentorship program project Brent leads, is building a new 16’ Iain Oughtred lapstrake rowing boat. All work will be completed to exacting standards. The hands-on skills acquired will be augmented by learning about the administrative realities of running a small business focused on boatbuilding, repair and restoration.

A rare snowy late winter day in the Harbor.

Acorn (15) 17. Laying the white oak keelson, stem, and sapele transom. The planking is 6mm hydrotec. The extra 2’ of hull length meant I had to use and extra short length of plywood instead of the designed 2 sheets, which I scarfed into long sheets.

My latest project. In conjunction with the , I am building an Ian Oughtred Acorn 15, stretched to 17’. This construction of the moulds, laminating the white oak stem and gluing up the sapele transom.

From my recent project, replacing galley countertop and bulkhead covering on the “Northern Star.” Used Teak and Holly marine plywood for the counter and Okume plywood on the bulkheads to replace the dated Formica.
