๐Ÿ’ป MOWRCA Security Tip: Be Careful with Browser Autofill

Internet browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Firefox often offer to save your credit card information so you can check out faster. While convenient, this feature can create an additional security risk.

If someone gains access to your computer, tablet, or phone, they may be able to view or use information stored in your browser.

๐Ÿ”’ Security Tip: Consider disabling payment autofill and manually entering your payment information when shopping online.

At Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area, we believe staying independent also means staying informed and protected in today's digital world.

We will resume normal business hours and meal site operations on Monday, June 22.

๐ŸŽฃ Don't Take the Bait!

Scammers are casting a wide net with phishing emails, texts, and messages designed to trick you into sharing personal information.

They may pretend to be Medicare, your bank, the IRS, or another trusted organization and create a sense of urgency to get you to act quickly.

Before you click:
โœ… Verify the sender
โœ… Check for spelling errors
โœ… Be cautious of unexpected attachments
โœ… Contact the organization directly if you're unsure

A few extra seconds of caution can protect your identity and your finances.

๐Ÿ›’ MOWRCA Security Tip: Think Twice Before Saving Your Payment Information

We've all seen it: "Would you like to save this payment method for future purchases?"

While it may make checkout faster, saving your payment information on shopping websites can increase your risk if that company experiences a data breach.

Even large, trusted retailers can become targets of cybercriminals.

๐Ÿ”’ Security Tip: Whenever possible, decline the option to save your payment information and enter it manually when making future purchases.

A few extra moments today can help protect your financial information tomorrow.

Do you know your evacuation route?

If an emergency hits like wildfire, flooding, or a major storm, officials may order evacuations. Knowing yours before that moment means you move faster and safer.

Here's how to find yours:

๐Ÿ” Search "[your county] evacuation route map" or visit your county's Office of Emergency Management website.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Sign up for your region/county's emergency alert system so you get notified directly, for our office in Lee County it is www.warncentraltexas.org but for our Ft Bend County office it is https://www.fortbendcountytx.gov/government/departments/homeland-security-emergency-management/alerts-warnings

YOURS, research your own county ahead of time!

๐Ÿ—บ Write your route down or print it out and store it with important documents. Put it somewhere your whole household can find it.
