We’re pleased to announce that we have copies of The 14th New York State Militia in the Civil War, Volume 1: Baptized by Fire: From Bull Run to Bull Run, April 1861–August 1862 by Jim McLean.

The book tells the story of the Brooklyn soldiers known as the “Red Legs”—a regiment recognized for its courage, endurance, and even its mischievous spirit. Through letters, diaries, and archival research, McLean reconstructs their experiences during the first 15 months of the Civil War, from the chaos of the First Battle of Bull Run through the exhausting campaign that ended in three harrowing days of combat at the Second Battle of Bull Run.

Based on decades of research and hundreds of archival visits, this work brings new attention to a regiment whose contributions have long been overlooked.

Interested in a copy? Call the shop at 717-685-5207 and we’d be happy to mail one to you.
