Laila is a computer science major at Purdue University (rising junior) who joined the Clear Function crew after connecting with our senior engineer Brian Lankford. She's spending her internship growing her full-stack development skills and working with frameworks like .NET on real projects.

Manual freight dispatch from an inbound email is approximately nine steps.

Most of them are copying, pasting, and verifying that the person who sent the email didn't mistype a zip code.

We built a demo that walks you through it, then shows the automated version. The interesting part isn't that automation is faster (everyone already knows that). It's where the errors hide in the manual version and how validation catches them at a different layer than parsing does.

That's how our newest post opens, and it isn't hyperbole. Most operations teams have either staffed for it or are about to.

The instinct when integrations break is to audit the middleware. Replace the connector. Evaluate a new iPaaS. That almost never solves the problem, because the problem usually isn't in the transport layer.

It's in the data contract. Two systems can both have an "Order" object and be modeling completely different things. The WMS updates in real time; the ERP runs nightly batches. Nobody has explicitly named the source of truth for the lot number, the cost layer, or the unit-of-measure conversion.

Until those questions get answered, new middleware just inherits the ambiguity.
