June is Men’s Health Month, and while we talk a lot about heart health and screenings, there’s one vital sense that often gets overlooked: your hearing. 😰
In the summer, hobbies like lawn mowing, motorcycling, and woodworking are in full swing here in Georgetown
These activities often exceed 85dB, the level where permanent damage can begin. While we understand women are exposed to these environments as well, statistically, men are more likely to experience noise-induced hearing loss.
You don’t have to give up the hobbies you love. You just have to protect your ears while you do them. 👂 If you’ve noticed a new ringing in your ears after a Saturday in the yard, let's chat.
Tag a guy who needs a reminder to grab his earplugs this weekend! 👇

As summer begins, routines shift, and listening environments change. Outdoor gatherings, busy restaurants, family events… and more background noise. ☀️
Even the best hearing aids have limitations and are designed to aid hearing, not replace it entirely.
The good news is that hearing aid technology continues to improve, especially for speech in noise.
If your hearing aids are five years or older, newer technology may offer better clarity in the situations that challenge you most. 🦻
Summer conversations should feel easier.

Happy Father’s Day 💪❤️
Today, I’m celebrating the men in my life who have shaped who I am.
The ones who taught me that hard work isn’t just about putting in long hours, it’s about showing up with integrity, doing your best even when no one is watching, and taking pride in the work you do.
The ones who showed me that your word matters. That staying true to your commitments, keeping your promises, and being someone others can count on builds a life worth living.
The ones who encouraged me to be unapologetically myself, to trust my instincts, and to chase dreams that might seem a little scary or unconventional.
Because of their example, I’ve learned that success isn’t measured only by achievements, but by character, perseverance, and the way you treat the people around you.
To my dad, my husband, and all the incredible fathers and father figures who lead with quiet strength and unwavering love, THANK YOU for the lessons that continue to guide me every day.
Happy Father’s Day to the men who inspire us to work hard, dream big, and stay true to who we are. 💙

Hi, it's Dr. Brewer 👋
The summer version of me right here in Kentucky has me looking like:
☀️ Pool days with family and friends
🍓 Frequent ice cream dates
👟 Playdates outside
🌅 Watching sunsets from the dock
Summer is made for the moments that bring us together. Weekends at the lake, dinners on the patio, backyard barbecues, family vacations, and catching up with friends long after the sun goes down. Hearing the laughter, stories, and conversations that fill those moments helps you stay connected and fully enjoy the memories being made.
One of my favorite parts of my job is helping people feel more present in those moments again; helping you hear the life you want to live!

Do you know someone who is showing signs of cognitive decline? 😔
Untreated hearing loss can make dementia symptoms more challenging, increasing confusion, disorientation, and safety risks. For individuals already living with cognitive decline, hearing difficulties can further limit communication and connection.
Treating hearing loss may help reduce some of these challenges. While hearing aids are not always the right solution for every patient, evaluating hearing allows us to explore the best options for each individual.
Personalized care matters. Let us know if you or a family member is navigating this uncertainty. We are here to help! 🫶💓

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is: 'Do I have to take my hearing aids out for the TSA scanner?' 🤔
The short answer? Nope! You generally do not need to remove your hearing aids to go through security.
However, some of our patients prefer to head through security with their “ears” off. If you have mild hearing loss and feel more comfortable removing your devices for the scanners, just make sure your storage case is handy in your carry-on. Keeping them tucked away in their proper home ensures they stay safe and sound while you navigate the terminal!

If your hearing aids are making unusual noises, working intermittently, or experiencing battery performance issues, it may be time to have us look them over! Some issues can be resolved easily in the office, while others may require us to send them in to the manufacturer.
Hearing aids typically last 4–5 years. As technology advances, newer options may provide better clarity and reliability. Our goal is to help you weigh your options and find the best solution for your needs.

Tinnitus can feel overwhelming, but managing it has evolved far beyond simply ignoring the sound. 💓 At Commonwealth Audiology, we focus on modern, active approaches to tinnitus care.
After a complete auditory evaluation in our clinic, we guide our patients through the latest treatment options. One powerful tool we frequently recommend exploring is the Oto app, a digital therapeutic program.
By committing to just 10 minutes of guided audio sessions and customized sound therapy on your smartphone each day, programs like Oto can help you actively retrain your brain to tune out the ringing.
It’s a process called "habituation." Think of it like learning to tune out the loud hum of an airplane engine so you can finally relax, focus, and sleep. 😴
Finding the right management strategy starts with understanding your unique hearing profile.

A patient told me something that really clicked. He said, “My hearing aids were acting up, and I didn’t have time to bring them in right away. I went without them for 3 days. I can’t believe how exhausted I was at the end of each day!”
👆 This is a perfect example of what happens when your brain has to work overtime to fill in the gaps of speech.
When you are missing pieces of sound, your brain tries to “auto-correct” everything. That extra effort adds up quickly, even if you do not realize it is happening. 😟
Once his hearing aids were repaired (which we did right here in the office!), he noticed he actually has energy left at the end of the day now!
Those kinds of wins go beyond just hearing better. They impact how you feel day to day. 💗
If you find yourself feeling unusually drained after conversations or meetings, it might not just be a long day. It could be your brain working harder than it needs to, and we can help with that.
