"Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them." (John 12:35–36)

As I talked about this event last night with Sarah Warren Thiessen, it struck me that they had THE LIGHT right there in their presence. Jesus said these things fairly closely after raising Lazarus from the dead. People were still talking the miracle. And it must have been an absolute joy to be with Christ Jesus -- teacher, healer, Messiah, and friend, the perfect man.

Dear brothers and sisters, our faith and hope are the person of Jesus Christ, who was, and is, and is to come. He, the god-man, the perfect witness, is the object of our faith. Not a thing. Not a tradition. Jesus Christ Himself. And I long to walk in His light for eternity.

Jesus told Thomas, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (Jn 20:29) And Peter writes, "Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls." (1 Pe 1:8–9)

Joy and salvation are found in THE LIGHT, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Jn 4:49–52 --
The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour.”

The man took Jesus at His Word. And only after He acted in faith was it proved to Him that Christ’s Word was effective.

This is how we need to live. And this is how we can properly think in relation to God.

We live by faith in God while we live in His created world.
We take Jesus at His Word and trust His Word.
It is after this faith opens our eyes to reality, we can then inquire of His world and see that His Word is effective.

There was a red sun over Kentucky this morning. It reminded me of this Bible verse:

Mt 16:1–4 -- "The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away."

Don't be a wicked and adulterous generation who cannot interpret the signs of the times. Sin is evil. Christ is the Savior of the World. Come to him.

His robes for mine, such anguish none can know
Christ, God's beloved, condemned as though His foe (it should've been us)
He, as though I, accursed and left alone
I, as though He, embraced and welcomed home
I cling to Christ and marvel at the cost
