Meet Charlie: a young, incredibly sweet, affectionate boy whose heart is just as strong as his spirit. 💜

Before arriving at the shelter, Charlie suffered a spinal injury that left him permanently paralyzed in his back legs. While he won't walk again, Charlie hasn't let that define him. He still loves attention, enjoys affection, and is ready to show someone just how special he is. 💛🐾

Charlie is one of the sweetest cats you’ll ever meet. He loves being around people, soaking up attention, and showing his appreciation with plenty of affection. In fact, during bladder expressions, Charlie is such a loving little guy that he gives kisses to his caregivers while they help take care of him. 💜🐾 His gentle, trusting personality makes his special care feel like a rewarding experience rather than a chore. 💛

Charlie is looking for a compassionate foster or medical pre-adopt home willing to help him navigate life with his special needs. His care includes:

💜 Bladder expressions 2–3 times a day (our medical team will provide training and support!)
💛 Occasional help managing bowel movements
💜 Strict rest for the next 6 weeks while his spine continues to heal
💛 Medications (prednisolone and gabapentin) to keep him comfortable during recovery
💜 Monitoring for urinary tract infections and skin sores from dragging his back legs

Charlie is incontinent, which means he cannot control when he urinates or has bowel movements. A consistent feeding routine, keeping him clean with baths or baby wipes, and watching for constipation are all part of helping him stay healthy. While his condition is permanent, many paralyzed cats live long, happy, fulfilling lives with dedicated caregivers. 💛💜

The best part? You won't be doing this alone. 💜🐾

Charlie qualifies for a medical pre-adopt program, and there are a couple of ways you can help him:

💜 You can foster Charlie for an initial 8-week period while he rests, recovers, and becomes comfortable in a home environment. During this time, our medical team will provide training, guidance, and support. After the 8 weeks, we will reassess Charlie’s needs and determine whether his best chance for adoption is continuing in his foster home or returning to the shelter so more potential adopters can meet him. 🐾

💛 If at any point you decide Charlie is the perfect fit for your family, you can choose to adopt him while continuing as his medical pre-adopt home. You will still have the support and guidance of our team as you learn his lifelong care needs. 💜

Charlie's prognosis for walking again is poor...but his prognosis for being an amazing companion is excellent. He doesn't know he's different. He just knows he wants love, comfort, and someone to believe in him. 💛🐾

Special needs pets often wait the longest because they need someone willing to see beyond their disability. Charlie is hoping that person is out there. 💜

Food for Fosters

We wanted to take a moment to clarify our policy regarding food for foster dogs.

It has recently come to our attention that there has been some confusion regarding the distribution of dog food. In some recent cases, fosters have received full bags of food from the shelter. However, we have since learned that our shelter food supply is designated specifically for the dogs in our on-site care and is not intended for ongoing distribution to foster homes.

To help each dog transition into foster care, every foster home will continue to receive a Ziploc bag of food when a dog is placed with them.

After that initial supply, fosters have two options:

1. Provide food for their foster dog, or
2. Obtain food from our Community Pet Pantry, when supplies are available.

Please note that the Community Pet Pantry is stocked through donations and may not always have food available. Because availability cannot be guaranteed, we encourage fosters to plan on providing food for their foster dogs whenever possible.

💜💛 Hospice Foster Needed for Blue Fairy 💛💜

Blue Fairy has been through extensive medical care, diagnostics, hospitalization, and multiple treatment trials, but she remains profoundly underweight. Her veterinary team believes advanced cancer is the most likely cause, and her prognosis is poor.

She is comfortable on daily medication, has a good appetite, and has no activity or dietary restrictions. We're hoping someone can give her the greatest gift of all—a quiet, loving home for her final days. A euthanasia appointment is scheduled for one week after she enters foster care, though it may be moved sooner if her quality of life declines.

Can you help Blue Fairy spend her remaining time surrounded by love instead of in a shelter? 💜💛

🚨 Foster Needed for Ushari 🚨

Sweet Ushari has been through so much, and now she needs a quiet place to heal. 💜💛

Ushari was recently treated for multiple snake bites to her face, leaving her with severe swelling. The good news is she's already made incredible progress—her swelling has gone down by about 80%, she can open her eyes again, and her veterinarians expect her to make a full recovery.

Right now, what she needs most is a calm foster home where she can rest for the next couple of weeks. Her care is straightforward:
🐾 Give her prescribed medications.
🐾 Keep her on strict rest with only short leash walks.
🐾 Shower her with gentle love while her body continues to heal.

She has a follow-up appointment scheduled before her spay surgery in a few weeks, and her prognosis is excellent.

After surviving such a painful ordeal, Ushari deserves a soft bed instead of a kennel. Can you be the safe place she needs while she recovers?

Bottle babies require feeding every 2–4 hours, warmth, and lots of love until they're old enough to eat on their own. If you've ever thought about fostering, now is the time—you could truly save a life.

We have run out of kennel space and are now housing dogs in crates in our hallways because there is simply nowhere else for them to go.

Foster Plea for sweet Mr. Abel!

Abel had to get a passport and move abroad (first NJ then Pennsylvania) to make room for flooding victims last July and now that he’s back in Texas, he needs someone to return the favor.

He is a gentle soul who used to live with older kids and a female bull terrier. He especially loves the ladies and is very gentle and calm with the older set like himself but still has a lot of energy. You’d never know his age. He is a perfect houseguest. Say kennel up and he goes right into his crate. He also does a perfect sit, shake, down and roll over. He is sooooo smart. He loves to observe wildlife and rarely barks at them and after a little bit of sun, he loves to take a nap. He has a very shiny chocolate coat that doesn’t shed and loves the water.
Once he gets to know you, he is incredibly loyal and loves to lean into you like a Dane or lay by your feet.

He has been through so much. Do you have room in your heart and home for this sweet guy?
