This is a tough post to write...

It is with teary eyes and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Maggie.

If you had the pleasure of being greeted by Maggie at Applegate's Hardware, you know the immediate way she brightened everyone's day. She was paws-down everyone's favorite employee, even if she refused to wear the uniform.

After Applegate's Hardware changed hands in April Maggie was able to enjoy a few months of blissful retirement, spending her days running through the woods, taking rides around town, and keeping a watchful eye on her squirrel and deer friends from her front porch.

Shortly after, she was diagnosed with late-stage chronic kidney disease. She has always been tough and she stayed strong throughout, but ultimately she succumbed to the terrible disease and was laid to rest on September 29, 2024 at 10 1/2 years old. Maggie was cuddled and comforted by her people up until the very end, and we hope she knew just how loved she was.

There wasn't a single person who Maggie didn't make smile. She was a special dog who took her work at the hardware store and home very seriously, and absolutely loved all her people. (Especially those who brought treats!)

While we are heartbroken by her loss, we celebrate her life and remember all the joy she spread to everyone who had the delight of meeting her and giving her a belly rub.

Rest in peace, sweet Maggs. You will be deeply missed 🐾🤎

P.S. - Maggie was adopted from the humane society when she was 8 months old, and I think we can all agree she proved how great a rescue dog can be. Please honor Maggie by supporting your local animal shelters and considering adoption when looking to add a furry member to your family.

Because of severe weather, our business will be closing early today, but we will reopen tomorrow at 8:00 am as usual.

We will be closed next Monday, September 2nd so that our staff can spend Labor Day with their families.
We will reopen Tuesday at 8am.
