2026 Brown-Highland-Meigs Camp 06/23/2026

Our Brown County 4-H Campers are home and have had a bit of time to rest up since we partied at Canter's Cave 4-H Camp with our friends from Highland and Meigs County. It was a camp filled with hiking, swimming, archery, outdoor cooking, bottle rockets, line dancing, color splash, tye-dyeing, high ropes, and boy, does the list go on!

We can't wait until next summer to be back around the campfire, singing songs, and sleeping in caves... ok, only a few did that, and just one night.

In the meantime, check out our full album of pictures hosted over on the camps page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1651281643664989&type=3

Parents of campers - I hope they have rested up and shared all about camp with you! Now have them share with their friends so we can have even more campers next time. Oh, and if you have any fun pictures or stories from drop off or pickup, drop them in the comments!

There are some eggciting things happening at the Georgetown Library this summer, especially over the next 21 days! Today we set 22 chicken eggs in an incubator at the library. Visitors will be able to help monitor the eggs by checking the temperature, humidity, and to see if they've turned any to ensure the eggs are kept at the optimal conditions for the chicks. The pictures tell us what temperature the incubator should be. Do you know what humidity level the incubator should be?

The hay testing program is back for its second year! “Make hay while the sun shines”. How many times have you heard that said throughout the years? We’ve had some sunshine this spring/summer, but making first cutting “dry” hay has still been challenging for most farmers this year.

In response to these challenges OSU Extension is offering a forage testing program with the goal of providing timely education for winter supplementation and if enough samples are submitted, creating a county hay quality summary. The 2025 summary is forthcoming for Brown County.

Dry hay or baleage samples are due to your local OSU Extension office by July 30, 2026. The first sample analysis will cost $15, with subsequent samples costing $20. These costs will be covered by a grant for Brown County farmers and residents. Near Infrared (NIR) Analysis will be completed. Producers will get values for Dry Matter Content, Total Digestible Nutrients, Crude Protein, ADF, NDF, Ash, Fat, C, P, K, RFV. Contact the office to schedule a time for Trevor to come sample your hay - 937-378-6716.
