For the past six months, all eDesign clients have been part of something I’m calling Designing Back, and this is literally the thing I started Balm Interiors to do 💛

After working for nonprofits and experiencing how fickle and exhausting donor development is, i wanted to build a for-profit business that could donate design hours to folks rebuilding from disaster. So starting in January (and all of 2025) a portion of my design hours each month have been donated to support households rebuilding after a natural or personal disaster, and it’s been amazing so far.

Sometimes we’re picking finishes for a kitchen renovation you never saw coming.
Sometimes we’re furnishing a blank apartment after you lost your stuff.
Sometimes we’re making an old place feel new again after your divorce.

It’s design that helps you feel at home again after the s-word that life unfortunately and yet somehow always brings.

If you’ve worked with me this year on an eDesign project, you’ve already helped make it happen by paying market rate design fees! You’ve been part of something beautiful without even realizing it. And my heartfelt thanks go out to all of you!

After 6 months trialing the program, I’m officially introducing it this week to my email subscribers. The email has all the details and includes the full Program Guide.

Comment below and I’ll send it to you.

Because good design helps you feel at home again. And while I hope each of you stay safe and warm and supported, I’m also here for her if life happens you ever need me 😊.

Kristen said it best during our consultation at her home in West Georgetown: “Neutrals don’t always neutral well together, do they?” And honestly? That one sentence could be a whole masterclass in undertones.

She and her family have been in this home for years, and now that the toy trucks and finger-paint days are behind them, they’re finally ready to make the house feel like theirs.

The limestone on their exterior is gorgeous and so deeply tied to Central Texas. It literally forms the ground beneath our feet and we didn’t want to change a thing. The orange-toned brick, however, was throwing the whole balance off. So we chose a neutral white with the faintest blush undertone, a paint color to mirror the limestone instead of fighting with it.

For the trim and accents, a soft blue range that picks up the sky, calming, the kind of color you can live with for years without ever getting tired of. And because an Onsite Color Consultation is about more than just picking swatches, we also dug into paint products that will protect their investment for the long haul. Because your grandma’s peeling paint from the 1990s is a thing of the past.

The result? Colors that feel obvious, like they were always meant to be here. That’s the difference between guessing and choosing with intention…it ends up ahhhhhh effortless.

This sweet Dripping Springs family love their beautiful home, but the living room always felt…unfinished. With little kids racing around, toys tucked in every corner, and zero free time to puzzle over design decisions, they needed this space to function as much as it to feel like the center of their home.

Their dream? A fireplace that didn’t feel like an add-on but like it had always belonged. We designed built-ins that fit the architecture seamlessly, then handed the plan off to their brilliant contractor to bring to life.

The detail I can’t wait to show you in the after photos? Those gorgeous varied green tiles they chose. Unique, personal, and such a joy to design around.

Working with families in the thick of busy, kid-filled years is always such a reminder: your home doesn’t need to be magazine ready to be ready for your people. It just needs to feel like you 💚

Little girl party as a Type B Interior Decorator who is Type A about a few things. I didn’t mentioned the flag bunting but is so inexpensive, requires only tacks, and is the celebratory feature!

A sign went up on a building down the street a month or so ago.

No flashy branding. No ribbon cutting. Just a quiet sign and an “opening soon.”

It finally opened a few weeks ago, and I finally went. And guys, it’s so good. (seriously i’m picky about coffee)

The coffee is rich and made with care.
The menu feels like someone actually thought about it.

And the people making it? Incredibly kind.

So, for no reason other than joy and design-nerd indulgence, I took their floor plan and designed my dream version of the space.

Because sometimes, the idea in your head just needs to come out.

Even if it’s just for you. Even if it never gets built.

Picture this:

You walk into this pocket coffee shop and exhale. It’s warm, a little sun-drenched, filled with texture and story and that rare kind of calm you don’t have to earn.

It’s not trying. It’s just confident.

The real cafĂŠ is already wonderful. But this version? This is what I saw in my head the moment I order my americano and started creepily snapping photos.

What would your dream coffee shop feel like?

Tell me in the comments, bonus points if it includes a cinnamon roll the size of your face.

Let’s design it.

Most people want to play it safe or keep to neutrals. This client dialed in and said: “I want color.”

This space?
A massive, echo-y great room with good bones—but no warmth, no story.

We leaned in hard:
➤ Moody, color-washed walls in deep blue-green
➤ Botanical and Moroccan-inspired textures and curves
➤ Vintage finds, layered textiles, and lighting that makes everything feel a little softer, a little slower

Now it’s the room everyone gravitates to. Cozy. Personality-packed. A little dramatic in the best ways. And because of the progress of AI visualization tools, even viewable in multiple wall color options.

Design doesn’t have to be neutral to be timeless. It just has to feel like you.
