I’m having a pop-up Open Studio at Elizabeth Castaldo’s studio! Come see me and the incredible Lavinia Wiggins at 101 S. Division Street in Peekskill. We’re here till 6 :)

Pop-Up Studio!!

This year the new event Upstate Open Studios will be happening Saturday and Sunday, with access to 180 artist studios throughout the Hudson Valley. Peekskill artist, friend and neighbor Elizabeth Castaldo has generously invited me to show my work in her studio. Liz will be further upstate this weekend attending her own art opening at Hudson Valley Seed Company. I’ll be holding it down at the Flat Iron Building on the second floor over the Peekskill Coffee House. Come by to see me and view Liz’s amazing work. I’ll have a range of paintings, sculptures and functional work for sale. Our studio neighbor, Lavinia Wiggins will also have her studio open, and Bookshop/Bookshop (image above) will be open too. Most likely several other studios and shops in our building. We are #59 and #112 on the Open Studios map – to be honest, these interactive maps are difficult to use on your phone and my dot does not show up, so just key in our address below, or use Peekskill Coffee House as your destination (we are right upstairs).

Come on down to the Mother’sYAY! Market in Peekskill today! I’ve got new work, lots of vases and planters, and great gifts for Moms. Plus, the Garden Club of Peekskill is having their annual sale over at the gazebo. Grab a plant there and a planter from me :)

Vote for Ken Jenkins in today’s Special Election!

Today is Special Election Day. Please vote for Ken Jenkins for County Executive, if you haven’t already.

Trump, Astorino and the NY Post have endorsed Republican Christine Sculti who is running against Ken. It is difficult to find information about her because she declined the League of Women Voters’ invitation to debate Ken as well as local newspaper interviews, and has no campaign website. https://www.lohud.com/story/news/politics/elections/2025/01/31/ken-jenkins-christine-sculti-westchester-county-executive-race-voting-information/78026165007/

In addition to being anti-choice and pro-book banning, Sculti has vowed to repeal the Immigrant Protection Act. The GOP also sent a letter to the County threatening everyone who worked on the Immigration Protection Act with 25 years to life in prison. As a reminder, this is legislation that prohibits the County from handing someone over to ICE without a judicial warrant. The Immigrant Protection Act requires the application of due process.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m on Feb. 11. To find your polling station and registration status, go to https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/.

Many of these DREAM HOUSE paintings are based on kit homes, but some (like this one), are based on home plans. Radford Homes produces catalogs from the early 1910s through 1930s. They provided well-designed buildings, providing a range of designs and plans including concrete homes, without the cost of the architect’s fees. The company published catalogs with detailed floor plans, accompanied by renderings and estimated building cost. Their catalogs and illustrations are some of my favorites.

This is a Sears Kit House! I researched Sears Kit Homes in Ossining and Croton to prepare for this exhibit. I made paintings of the most popular designs of the over 100 Sears Homes in the area. Sears, Roebuck, and Co. entered the kit home market in 1908 and became the largest provider of kit houses. Sears sold pre-cut houses through their mail-order catalogs through 1940. Their success can be attributed to their established catalog distribution and name recognition. However, they were incredibly designed and built and are still sought after today.
