On the drive to Boscobel, I decided I’d just do my makeup in the car.

At the venue, I gave the chicken wire one last try…
still not right.

Back to the bun.
Still unsure.

I was ready to accept something that was “good enough.”

Then Jim came in and said,
“Put on the tiara.”

And suddenly everything shifted.

It wasn’t about finding a new hairstyle.
It was about completing the one I already had.

Same bun.
Different crown.

And finally. I felt like HER.

When wigs fail… you build.

Enter: chicken wire.

Plan C was a 7-inch high ponytail structure — not perfect, but finally bringing the drama I was looking for.

Jim gave me his official review.

Verbally: supportive.
Facially: concerned.

I wasn’t worried though.
Because now we had a plan.

Now we just had to remove the chicken wire
so my hair fits in the car.

Next stop: the venue.

So… the 3-wig Afro experiment did not survive.

I looked at myself in the mirror and calmly said,
“I’m not gonna freak out.”

“What’s Plan B?”

Plan B was a high ponytail bun.

Elevated. Structured. Reasonable.
And honestly?

It was close to the final direction…

But in the moment, it felt… safe.

And if we’re becoming Queen Charlotte,
safe is not the assignment.

So I walked off in search of more drama.

I have long dreadlocks.
I have three wigs.
I have confidence.

What I did not have…
was foresight.

Inspired by ’s 3-wig Afro strategy, I decided the morning of the event was the perfect time to attempt structural wig architecture.

Three wigs.
One Queen.
No backup plan.

Tabitha, I love you.
But this was… ambitious.

The hair crisis has officially begun.

It’s the day of our Bridgerton-inspired evening at Boscobel (aka )… and I am staring at a bed full of Regency decisions.

The gown.
The new corset.
The petticoat.
The shoes.
The wigs.
The accessories.

After a quick crash course in “how to lace yourself into 19th-century optimism” (thank you, YouTube), I attempted the full dress rehearsal.

This was my first time trying everything on together since upgrading the corset and petticoat…

And somehow - miraculously - it all fit.

Which means there is now only one challenge left.
The hair.

Today is about giving credit where credit is due.

This Queen transformation did not happen in a vacuum. I’ve been studying brilliant creators who experiment boldly with structure, layering, height, and drama - and yes… chicken wire engineering:

- Afro stacking.
- Layered wigs.
- Zip tie architecture.
- Floral embellishments.

The mood board has been intense.

The wig wasn’t ready… so we built a dressing room instead.

I sat down to do my hair and immediately realized my dresser was chaos. And if you’re anything like me, the moment you have a deadline, your brain decides it’s time to reorganize something completely unrelated.

So instead of forcing the hair experiments, we reset the space.

New organizers.
Hollywood vanity lights (installed perfectly by Jim, MVP).
A folding makeup chair.

Now the Queen has a proper stage.
