We are equipped with 4x4 vehicles, mountain bikes, snowshoes and cross country skis.
We are a volunteer organization, incorporated by the State of New Mexico, officially recognized by the State of New Mexico Department of Public Safety, and dedicated to the preservation of life through search and education services. We have personnel trained in low angle rescues, cave rescues, wilderness medicine and tracking. We also have Amateur Radio operators capable of providing communication

On Sunday, BCSO Open Space Unit utilized a piece of high ground to scan a section of the Rio Puerco while looking for a woman who was abandoned miles into the wilderness by her boyfriend. Deputies used these All Terrain Vehicles to thoroughly cover about twenty square miles of the search area in this remote location. Working alongside BCFR, and state and local volunteer search agencies, the woman was eventually located!
