McKinley County

The McKinley County Roads Department opened a newly completed section of Superman Canyon Road (CR43A) this week. The 2-mile stretch replaces a badly eroded section that could not be improved because of archaeological sites in the area. Funding for the project was provided through the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Transportation Improvement Program.

The McKinley Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a Community Resource Fair on Saturday, April 25.

News Release - The McKinley County Board of Commissioners announced today that it is postponing consideration of a proposed ordinance that would have increased local taxes to support economic development efforts. See the attachment for information.

Notice is hereby given that the McKinley County Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Meeting on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m conduct a public hearing to consider a proposed Ordinance 2026-MAR-001. The meeting will take place in the Commission Chambers, Third Floor of the McKinley County Courthouse, located at 207 West Hill, Gallup, New Mexico.

Construction crews pour concrete at Red Rock Park on Friday morning for new restrooms being built on the east side of the main arena. As part of McKinley County’s commitment to improving the park, crews are working to complete the new facility in time for the summer event season. The building will replace outdated restrooms previously located at the site and provide increased capacity for visitors. Funding for the project was provided through the Regional Recreation Centers & Quality of Life grant from State of New Mexico.

The McKinley County Sheriff’s Department is officially opening the doors to its newly renovated facility today, Tuesday, Feb. 17!

Located at 1000 E. Aztec Avenue in Gallup, the new 14,000-square-foot building nearly doubles the size of the previous location and provides:

✅ Expanded office and storage space
✅ A new workout facility
✅ An on-site specialized training simulator
✅ A safer, more modern workspace for our deputies and staff

Work crews install rip rap on a new bridge crossing on Superman Canyon Road, also known as County Road 43. The new crossing and road alignment will make it safer and more reliable for area residents to use the road, especially in the rainy season when the arroyos carry large amounts of water. Crews anticipate finishing the project sometime in the spring of 2026.
