๐Ÿ”ฌ What Makes Some Cancers More Aggressive Than Others?
New research from Virginia Tech suggests that cancer aggressiveness may depend not only on the type of cancer, but also on characteristics of the cancer cells themselves. Researchers found that smaller cancer cells with abnormal chromosome numbers grew faster, were more invasive, and showed greater resistance to treatment.
These findings, published in Cancer Biology ("Cell and Nuclear Size Is Associated with Chromosomal Instability and Tumorigenicity in Cancer Cells That Undergo Whole Genome Doubling") and PNAS ("Oxidative Stress and Serum Deprivation Influence the Evolution of Newly Formed Tetraploid Cells During Tumorigenesis"), highlight how subtle cellular changes can influence cancer progression.
At OneTest, we believe that understanding biological changes before symptoms appear is key to a more proactive approach to health. By analyzing multiple cancer-related biomarkers and applying AI-powered risk assessment, OneTest is designed to identify patterns associated with cancer risk earlier.

๐Ÿ” Cancer screening saves lives โ€” and the numbers prove it.
According to the latest report from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Cancer Progress Report 2025, screening and prevention efforts have helped prevent 4.75 million cancer deaths in the United States over the past several decades. In colorectal cancer alone, 79% of lives saved were linked to screening and removal of precancerous polyps.
The challenge? Many cancers still have no recommended routine screening tests, and too many people miss the opportunity for early detection. That's why researchers are investing in new technologies, including AI-powered risk assessment, minimally invasive blood tests, and advanced imaging, to identify cancer earlierโ€”before symptoms appear.
Early detection can mean:
โœ… More treatment options
โœ… Less aggressive treatment
โœ… Better outcomes
โœ… Greater peace of mind
The future of cancer care isn't just treating cancer earlierโ€”it's identifying risk sooner and helping people take action before cancer advances.

Recent headlines have sparked discussions about multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests. One important point often gets lost in the conversation:
Not all blood-based cancer tests work the same way.
One of the key limitations of ctDNA-based testing is that early-stage cancers may not release enough tumor DNA into the bloodstream to be detected. As a result, ctDNA-based tests can miss some cancers at the stage when early detection matters most.
Protein biomarkers, however, can provide sufficient biological information for analysis even when ctDNA levels are too low to detect. By analyzing multiple biomarkers simultaneously, AI-powered approaches can identify subtle patterns associated with cancer risk at an earlier stage.
The future of medicine is detecting the body's earliest signals of disease โ€” before enough tumor DNA is present to be detected.

Cancer isn't just a disease of older adults โ€” and the numbers are proving it. ๐Ÿ“Š Early-onset cancer cases (adults under 50) are rising by 1โ€“2% every year, and researchers predict a 30% jump between 2019 and 2030. Oncologists are seeing more patients in their 30s and 40s with breast, colorectal, and head and neck cancers. So what's behind the rise? Possible factors include: ๐Ÿ”ธ Chronic inflammation from stress, obesity, or low physical activity ๐Ÿ”ธ Changes to the gut microbiome from processed foods or microplastics ๐Ÿ”ธ Reproductive factors ๐Ÿ”ธ Inequities in healthcare access Here's what experts agree on: knowing your family history and paying attention to symptoms matter โ€” especially when many young adults fall below the standard screening age. That's exactly why early cancer risk detection tools like OneTest exist. One test. Multiple cancers.
