Joseph M. Young II

July 31, 1965 — November 15, 2023

On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Joseph M. Young passed away at the age of 58 in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was a loving husband to Angela L. Swainson, and proud father of 3 children: Jordon, Angela and Josephine Joungson. Affectionately known as “Mike,” and was a treasured human being who brought joy to his family and friends.

Born in Washington, D.C, raised in Riverdale, MD, Joseph was the oldest child of Wille Mae Young and the late Joseph M. Young, Sr. He attended DeMatha High School where he played defensive tackle, winning the state championship in 1982.

As a history buff, he frequented Renaissance fairs, watched and read historical fiction. He loved visiting historical sites around the country and fulfilled his dream to visit Japan.

Joseph will forever be remembered by his devoted wife, Angela L. Swainson of Silver Spring, MD, and his children Jordon, Angela, jr., and Josephine; his mother W. Mae Young, Riverdale, MD; and his brother Jorlando Montgomery Young, Riverdale MD, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

This guy to the left of me is more than a hype man. He is a brother who has stuck by me through perilous times. He is a bro who I’ve witnessed keep a optimistic outlook in the midst of his own trials. He believes in the Christ in me and has always supported me and encouraged me no matter what. I’ve been able to confide in him and keep it a whole buck with him and he’s never judged me or looked at me as less of a leader.

Don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota.
It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.
