Nearly 𝟲𝟬 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 have officially joined our union family, standing strong against critical workplace challenges like heavy workloads and the struggle to secure full-time employment.

The organizing drive, launched on June 3, 2024, was powered by UFCW Local 1994 Organizing Director Ray Lee, staff members John Kilker and Steve Valentich, and Region 2 Reps Alejandro Miranda and Donald Minor — with the library employees themselves leading the charge through on-site and virtual meetings, building solidarity, and signing digital authorization cards.

Even in the face of management’s efforts to discourage them, these folks stayed united and focused. 💪

“This victory is a testament to the determination and solidarity of the library staff,” said Lee. “By standing together, they have taken an important step toward securing fairer working conditions and a stronger future for all employees.”

Howard County library workers press board of trustees for higher wages After Howard County Library System workers overwhelmingly voted to form a union in February, workers have been stuck in wage negotiations with the library system’s board of trustees. They planned to ask for contract provisions at the board’s Wednesday night meeting.
