As part of National Transit Employee Appreciation Day tomorrow we salute the more than 25,000 transit bus operators who aren’t just driving routes but steering us into our economic futures by carrying workers to jobs, students to classrooms and customers to businesses. To the drivers behind the wheel: thank you.

To help keep your home safe during winter storms:

Prevent frozen pipes: Keep your home at a consistent temperature. Allow faucets to drip slightly during extreme cold and open cabinet doors under sinks.
Clear vents and exhausts: Ensure furnace, dryer, and bathroom vents are free of snow to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
Use space heaters safely: Keep heaters at least three feet away from flammable items and never leave them unattended.
Test safety devices: Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms and replace batteries as needed.
Avoid overloading outlets: Do not plug multiple heating devices into one outlet.
Check balconies and windows: Remove excess snow buildup where possible to prevent damage or leaks.
Prepare for power outages: Keep flashlights, batteries, and emergency supplies readily available. Maryland Access Point may have resources for seniors 60+
