This beauty is ready to fly the coop. Roughly 8’x25-42” 21/4” thick live Oak. It is the last piece left from the UF Health Executive Conference Suite collaboration with Flad Architecture and UF Health. Instead of taking the easy way out and simply removing the oak and having a tree service haul it to the land fill the Staff at UF Health led by Tina Mullen and Brad Pollitt joined by Jamie Carley at Flad Architecture contracted Paula Nicks, and at great cost, to carefully remove the tree. She then cut the large trunk sections into slabs. The slabs were then set to dry for two years. Once the woods moisture content had dropped to 14% Paula transported the tree to a local kiln in High Springs. The wood was placed in the kiln for 55 days. Gradually raising the temperature to 160deg. Then gradually reduced to ambient air temp. The slow process is necessary to help keep the wood from cracking, warping, or splitting. After removal from the kiln the slabs were handed over to me to make several pieces for the Executive Suite. I am grateful that Tina Mullen and Brad Pollitt were kind enough to let me keep the remaining wood. This piece is now for sale. $4500.00 delivery or shipment can be arraigned. DM me for details. Thank you.
