The Gainesville Muslim Initiative (GMI) is a vision to educate the general Gainesville community about the religion of Islam and its virtues including peace, generosity and tolerance.
Radiant Hands announces "Radiant Works", a scholarship fund that will provide grants to help women further their education and work skills to provide greater financial stability for their family. Fundraising began at the annual dinner held on Oct 2, and Radiant Hand expects to begin accepting applications in the Spring of 2011.

Food Collected at "A Day of Peace and Unity" Event and distributed to the St. Francis House and Gainesville community
raises approximately $1000 in books and funds for the Alachua County Library District

In remembrance of 9/11, the Gainesville Muslim Initiative invited people of all faiths to participate in acts of service in the downtown community plaza. Activities included a blood drive, a book drive, feeding those in need, providing dental and hygiene products for those in need, presentations by local community leaders, and a candle light vigil.

Candlelight ceremony in downtown Gainesville shows peace and tolerance on 9/11 | Gainesville.com A week of drama that focused the world's eyes on Gainesville because of a preacher's plan to burn the Quran ended Saturday night with charity, fellowship and a candlelight memorial to those who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The Muslim Community of Gainesville respectfully ask that no congregation or individuals outside of North Central Florida arrange counter-protests or activities of their own in Gainesville. In the interest of public safety, we have been advised by local and national law enforcement agencies that Muslims outside of North Central Florida should engage in activities of support in their own communities.

Twenty religious leaders representing three faiths and a number of denominations stood together on the steps of Gainesville's City Hall at noon Thursday as a show of solidarity against a small church that has commanded worldwide attention for its plan to burn the Quran on Sept. 11.

"Ziad Ghanimi, the spokesman for the Gainesville Muslim Initative, formed about a month ago to counter the growing anti-Islam rhetoric, issued a similar statement, calling for Muslims to “see this challenge as an opportunity to engage our respective communities in constructive discussions about the true principles of Islam which include freedom of religion and tolerance.”
