It’s almost Alexander Technique Awareness Week!✨

From September 22–26, we’re celebrating by spreading the word about the Alexander Technique and the many ways it can support mindful, conscious movement in everyday life.

AmSAT teachers: this is a great week to share what you love about the Alexander Technique! Post a lesson, a tip, a thought, or anything that helps others discover what the work is all about.

Let’s get the Alexander Technique out into the world!

I love that “The Pause” is the first step. Pausing before you move to a new activity and ask, “ could I do this differently?”. No right or wrong way, just different.

THIS IS HOW TO PROCESS YOUR FEELINGS...

Buddhism does not teach us to suppress difficult emotions or pretend that we are always peaceful. It teaches us to understand our emotions deeply, observe them without becoming enslaved by them, and allow them to pass without creating more suffering.

1. PAUSE
Before reacting, stop. Take a breath and acknowledge what is happening within you. Anger, sadness, fear, jealousy or disappointment are experiences, not your identity. A pause creates space between what you feel and what you do.

2. NAME IT
Instead of saying, “I am angry,” try, “Anger is present in me.” This small shift creates awareness. In Buddhist practice, mindful observation helps us see emotions as temporary states that arise and eventually pass away.

3. FEEL IT
Do not immediately distract yourself, suppress the emotion or run from it. Sit with it. Notice where it appears in your body and what thoughts accompany it. You can acknowledge pain without allowing pain to control your actions. What we resist often becomes stronger; what we observe with awareness can begin to soften.

4. ASK WHY
Look beneath the emotion. What triggered it? What expectation was hurt? What attachment, fear or desire is creating this suffering? Buddhism teaches that much of our suffering comes from clinging to how we think people, situations and life should be.

5. RELEASE
Once you understand the feeling, give it somewhere to go. Breathe deeply. Write it down. Meditate. Walk. Speak honestly with someone you trust. And when necessary, forgive. Releasing does not mean saying that what happened was acceptable. It means refusing to carry the poison of resentment everywhere you go.

6. SHIFT
Your feelings deserve to be acknowledged, but they do not deserve to control your entire day. Once you have felt and understood them, redirect your energy toward something constructive. Choose patience over reaction, compassion over revenge, and wisdom over impulse.

You do not need to eliminate every difficult emotion to become peaceful.

You simply need to stop becoming every emotion that visits you.

That is where mindfulness becomes freedom.

Hydration is important to all tissues. And first on their list under hydration is efficient movement! Let the Alexander technique help you explore your healthy movement.

💧 Hydrated vs. Dehydrated Fascia: Why Your Body Needs Water!

Have you ever wondered why some days you feel stiff and sluggish, while others you feel fluid and energized? The secret might be your fascia—the web of connective tissue that wraps around everything in your body!

➡️ Fascia needs hydration to function correctly, like a sponge needs water.

💭Here’s the difference:

🌊 Hydrated Fascia: The Happy Sponge
Think of healthy, hydrated fascia as a wet, squishy sponge:
🤸‍♀️ Fluid Movement: Tissues glide smoothly, allowing you to move easily with less joint pain.
⚡ Stable Energy: Your body doesn't fight itself to move, keeping energy levels high.
🧘 Balanced Emotions: Linked to a calm nervous system, reducing chronic stress and emotional tension.
🛡️ Strong Immunity: Excellent circulation of nutrients and waste removal keeps your immune system strong.

🏜️ Dehydrated Fascia: The Dry Sponge
Dehydrated fascia is like a dry, brittle sponge—stiff, sticky, and ready to crack:
🚶‍♀️ Stiffness & Pain: Restricts movement, leading to stiffness, muscle knots, chronic joint pain, and limited flexibility.
📉 Low Energy & Stress: Movement becomes exhausting. It activates your body's stress response ("fight or flight"), leading to constant fatigue and high stress.
🤒 Weak Immunity: Impeded fluid flow means slower healing and a weaker immune response.

💡 The Takeaway:
If you want better movement, less pain, higher energy, and more emotional balance, you need to hydrate your fascia!
How? Drink plenty of water, move your body regularly with gentle stretching, and foam roll to keep that sponge supple! 💦
