🏈 Final from Frisco: West defeats East 21–17 in a thrilling East–West Shrine Bowl finish.
What a night in snowy North Texas from the Ford Center at The Star and what an event, one that once again proved this game is about much more than football and it's been that way for over a century.
The West team sealed the victory after a late touchdown run by Dom Richardson from Tulsa Football, who punched it in from short distance and gave the West a 21–17 lead with just seconds remaining. A last-ditch Hail Mary attempt by Kyron Drones fell short under heavy pressure, resulting in a game-sealing interception.
Offensive MVP: Mark Gronowski (Iowa)
Gronowski led two scoring drives, showcased his mobility, and even delivered a key lead block for his running back Dean Connors, doing it all in a complete team effort performance.
Defensive MVP: Mason Reiger (Wisconsin)
Reiger was relentless off the edge, recording three sacks and consistently disrupting the East backfield throughout the game.
Special teams also played a major role, with punters flipping field position all night and helping swing momentum in a tightly contested matchup.
There were standout moments on both sides:
Strong quarterback play from Gronowski and Jalon Daniels who scored on a rushing TD just before the half, and some great poise late in the game from Joseph Fagnano, who ultimately led his team down the field for the game-winning score.
Physical running from Dean Connors and Dom Richardson.
Defensive pressure from James Thompson Jr., Mason Reiger, and multiple East front-seven contributors including the Duke Football tandem of Aaron Hall and Wesley Williams.
Clutch field goals in critical situations like the 57 yarder from Florida Gators Football Trey Smack.

Each year, the East–West Shrine Bowl presents the Pat Tillman Award to honor a player who embodies intelligence, sportsmanship, and service.
This year, that honor belongs to Febechi Nwaiwu. Nwaiwu is a graduate of Coppell High School and former walk-on at Mean Green Football who joined the Oklahoma Sooners in 2024.
Throughout the week, starting January 22nd, Nwaiwu earned the respect of teammates and coaches alike, not just for his performance on the field, but for the character, leadership, and humility he brought into every practice and meeting room.
“This award reflects character, perseverance, and integrity,” said West Team Head Coach Lunda Wells. “Febechi leads by example and represents everything this honor stands for.” Wells is currently the TE coach with the Dallas Cowboys.
Pat Tillman’s legacy lives on through players like Nwaiwu who strive for excellence not only in football, but in life.
A well-deserved recognition for a young man who truly represents what this game is about. 🏈🙏

It was only a matter of time... 30th in total defense means you don't get to keep your job, especially when your offense is 2nd behind only the Rams and likely MVP Matthew Stafford! ✭
