Baonecci Open on 4th of July

Origin of 4th of July

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, originates from the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by members of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This document, primarily authored by Thomas Jefferson, announced the 13 American colonies’ separation from British rule, marking the birth of the United States as an independent nation.

The decision for independence stemmed from growing tensions between the colonies and Britain, fueled by events like the Stamp Act (1765), the Boston Tea Party (1773), and the Intolerable Acts (1774). These grievances led to the First Continental Congress in 1774 and, eventually, the Revolutionary War, which began in 1775. By June 1776, the colonies were ready to formalize their break from Britain. On July 2, 1776, the Congress voted for independence, and two days later, on July 4, they officially adopted the Declaration.

Celebrations began almost immediately. In 1777, Philadelphia marked the day with fireworks, a tradition that spread. By 1778, General George Washington celebrated with his troops, and over time, the holiday grew with parades, speeches, and public festivities. In 1870, Congress made July 4 a federal holiday, and in 1941, it became a paid holiday for federal employees.

The Fourth of July symbolizes American independence, unity, and patriotism, celebrated today with fireworks, barbecues, flags, and community events, reflecting the spirit of 1776.

See you soon.

Happy 4th!

Arrivederci.
