Bubbles, a smart old horse with frostbit ears, escaped a kill lot by hiding with a group of mini donk Who Rescued Who?

Sold at auction to the Kill Pen, (Mexico slaughter pipeline) this handsome gelding made his way thru multiple gates, commands of kill pen employees and down the "shoots" to hitch a ride on Becky's Hope Horse Rescue's Freedom Trailer. While they were loading up 9 mini donkeys, Bubbles (the name given to him by the rescue) patiently waited for his turn. The last two steps on the trailer that aftern

We picked up Pepper from the vet thinking we’d have a sweet little reunion… she said “bye” and took off—here’s video proof of my rejection!! 😂

On the bright side, the vet gave her the all clear and she’s back to her old self. She’ll be on smaller meals for a few days, and if all goes well she’ll be back to her normal eating routine. We’re just so happy Pepper’s feeling better—it’s so hard when a horse (or any animal) isn’t feeling well. When the vet is worried, we’re even more worried, so this feels like such a relief! 💛

We had an emergency with Pepper and she’s back in the hospital, but she’s doing better this morning. We’re so grateful to the team at Weems & Stephens for taking such good care of our girl.

On Tuesday morning …. Pepper wasn’t at the gate yelling for breakfast like her usual dramatic self. She was out nibbling grass, and when she finally came in, she wouldn’t touch her food—huge red flag for a horse who never leaves a scrap!!!

Meds were given, vets were called, and when she started showing more discomfort - we rushed her to the clinic. There, 5–6 vets and techs ended up jumping in on her case. (These photos are when we first got there and then it got really serious really fast so we moved out of the way) Her heart rate was around 100 (should be closer to 30 maybe - when they’re in pain like that), respirations were also high, they pulled over 4 gallons of reflux, and the sonogram showed an impaction, so they were very worried about a possible strangulating lipoma. After they removed some fluid, her heart rate dropped to 60—still high, but better.

Overnight, we finally got GOOD news: her heart rate came down to 30, she passed manure, is more comfortable, and they now think it was a very severe colic but we still don’t know for sure. She’ll stay a few days so they can monitor her closely and slowly reintroduce food.

I feel like I can finally breathe again. After the farrier this morning, I’m heading over to visit Pepper and will keep you all posted. Thank you for every prayer, message, and good thought you can send her way.

And Pepper—next time you want extra attention, just roll in the mud or something. No more heart‑stopping hospital drama for your humans. We love you, girl. ❤️😩😮😃🙌🏼👏🏼🙏🏼

We had part of the old gang back out at the farm and it was AWESOME!!

Out of the blue, Linda texts me:
“Need help cleaning the goat shed?”

Ummm… HECK YES!! 🤣 It was already on Cari and my to-do list, so we made a plan!! If you know, you know: after a winter cold spell that shed is layered with straw to keep the goats and sheep warm. It’s the BIGGEST, WORST chore after a cold snap – we were sure it’d be an all-day thing!

Then Chris randomly shows up… and then our FARMily friend Brooke rolls in too!! Like, how lucky am I?! WAHOOOO! 🧹

The goats and sheep are loving their fresh, clean digs — and honestly, I can’t tell who’s happier about that shed being done… them or me! 😂 Huge thanks again to everyone who jumped in and helped today. Our hearts (and our chore list) is so much lighter! lol

Rainy, dreary, muddy day — and it’s a GREAT day! ☔️🌧️

You ever have one of those rare days where everything just clicks, lines up, and gets done exactly how it should? Today was one of those — and I’m soaking it in (literally and figuratively)! Ha!

I was racing the rain and the clock today, and the universe delivered:
1. Chris — one of our amazing volunteers — showed up right when I needed him.
2. We got all the animals fed and settled.
3. Goat and sheep pen mucked.
4. Area around the hay bale cleaned up.
5. Mike and Holly started the mini pasture — and everything finished at the same time.

Then — BAM — the rain started.

It really takes a team, and every bit of help matters. I’m so grateful for these folks who made a messy day smooth and efficient. From the bottom of my muddy boots — thank you guys!

Feeling thankful, muddy, and smiling. 😊

Here at Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue, we have a small, special herd of horses who may never be riding partners—but they are full of heart, personality, and sweetness.

These are:

- Gentle companions who bring calm and comfort to other horses
- Shy souls learning to trust the halter, the brush, and a kind hand
- Horses who need patient, consistent care with their feet and basic handling

Important: At this time, none of our horses are suitable for riding.

What they “can” be are cherished pasture pets, emotional support for other equines, and beloved members of a forever family.

If you:
- Have safe pasture space
- Want to make a life-changing difference for a horse who’s been overlooked
- Believe companionship is just as valuable as performance

…then one of our “unrideable” horses might be the perfect match for your heart and your farm. ❤️

How you can help:

1. Adopt – Open your home to a horse who truly needs a soft landing.

2. Share this post – Help us reach the people who might be searching for exactly this kind of horse.

3. Support the rescue – If you can’t adopt, a small monthly donation or sponsorship helps us feed, vet, and care for them.

Thank you for all of your support!!

Welcome to Robert’s Burr‑ber Shop!

Bently has acres of open land to explore and still manages to find the one burr patch… just so he can try out “nature’s curlers”. We truly think he’s doing it on purpose to get some one on one time with Robert. 🤣

Huge thank you to Robert for taking the time to give Bently some extra attention and making him look so incredibly handsome. We’re pretty sure this hairstyle is about to go viral. 🙃😉

This is Pepper’s “I have questions”
face.

You know the one — ears forward, eyes wide, staring straight into your soul like:

"Is that a treat or are you lying to me?”

"Why is my dinner 3 seconds late?"

"What exactly are your intentions with that halter?"

What do you think she’s trying to ask me here? 😂

Breaking News:The Pasture “Peace Treaty” has officially fallen apart after a bray-nstorming session went south.

Charlie Brown insists the ball’s his “emotional support enrichment device,” while Angelo claims it’s “community property.” Eyewitnesses report excessive side-eyeing, dramatic sighs, and one well-aimed nudge that might qualify as a “gentle shove.”

The situation remains “un-stable”. Negotiations will resume after both parties cool off and/or forget what they were mad about. 😂
