This week we learn about Jonah. The story of Jonah became a sign that Jesus is Lord. How? Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish. Jesus spent three days and three nights in the grave. Jonah was a sign from God to the people of Nineveh. The Son of Man (Jesus) would be a sign from God to the people of Jesus’ day (meaning the contemporary time when Jesus came to earth). Jonah preached to others to turn away from their sins. Jesus had a message even more important than Jonah’s. He wanted us to know the story of Jonah.

This story has been part of an important tradition. In the early Church, the story of Jonah was captured in beautiful artwork. These serve as reminders that the Lord promises deliverance.

Check out this early Christian artwork in the catacombs of Rome, Italy, depicting Jonah and the huge fish:

Chinese government designates Lottie Moon's church as historical site 12/04/2019

The name, "Lottie Moon," is known by Southern Baptists far and wide. From the Woman's Missionary Union's Lottie Moon Christmas Offering to movies, books and documentaries detailing her life of service, Lottie Moon is often hailed as a "missionary hero." Lottie Moon's legacy will now be preserved beyond the Southern Baptist realm. Wulin Shenghui Church of Penglai in Shandong province, where Lottie Moon was a member during her time in Dengzhou, China, has been designated as a nationally protected historical and cultural site by The State Council of the People's Republic of China, the China Christian daily reported! Read about it here:
