We shared disaster prep ideas on June 10th, and we're adding to them for June's National Pet Preparedness Month based on a recommended article with lots of good info-links: www.ready.gov/pet-toolkit.
Another good article from ASPCA gives a good overview & reminder of the info we shared in our 6/10/26 post about putting together an emergency "Go Bag" for each pet: aspca.org/pet-care/general-pet-care/disaster-preparedness
TIP: Prepare for a scenario where your pet(s) are boarded near home and, more likely, where your pets go with you. Make a list of pet-friendly hotels/motels in several directions from home and add the list to your Go-Bags.
Two-year-old Max is really into the World Cup! He's cheering for all the teams and wanting to show off his Football/Soccer skills. Max is well known as an excellent, playful kitty with all interactive toys... including his new soccer ball!
Be sure to read Max's full bio and apply to adopt him to set up a meet & greet with this very handsome boy!

Sharing this Texas Humane Legislation Network graphic as Summer temps are here! [Thank you, THLN!]
More Tips: Enter your Vet & Emergency Vet #'s into all cell phones & keep their #'s near any landlines. Cover any victim of heat exhaustion with cool, damp (not cold) towels while coordinating with your Vet. Talk about summer-heat pet safety with all family members.
Everyday Reminders: Keep all pets in air conditioning during our Tex-Sauna-Summers. Provide your special, four-legged family members with unlimited drinking water (However, if suffering heat exhaustion, limit water to occasional sips of Cool, not Cold water). If outdoors for any reason, keep their paws off of asphalt (and other hot surfaces), stay in the shade & on the grass, bring plenty of drinking water & a bowl on walks and Never leave a pet (or person) in an unattended car (not even with the windows cracked).

Thanking Petfinder for this info-guide about lost pets associated with being scared from July fireworks. AI says there's a 30-60% increase in Lost Pets around the July 4th holiday! We would add the best tip we know: Make sure pet microchips are implanted and registered with your current contact information! Keep pets on-leash when helpful for their safety!
Pet fear of fireworks noise can be minimized by following the tips on the graphic. Their chances of door-dashing outside and getting lost and/or hurt can be thereby reduced. If your pet escapes your home and becomes Lost, your pet's chances of being Found & Returned increase greatly if they are microchipped (with registration info updated)!

This week is Animal Rights Awareness Week. Sadly, is needed since many pets and community animals suffer from abuse or neglect. Per the Texas Penal Code, cruelty to animals includes: "Torturing an animal; failing to provide food, care or shelter; abandoning an animal; transporting or confining an animal in a cruel manner; killing, seriously injuring or poisoning an animal; causing an animal to fight with another; using a live animal as a lure in a dog race; tripping a horse, injuring an animal belonging to another person; or seriously overworking an animal." From the SPCA of Texas, penalties for animal abuse include: "The judge may take away their animals and order them to pay restitution. A person might face penalties including fines, jail, community service and/or probation. Those under the age of 18 are also required to undergo counseling if convicted of animal cruelty." Abusing animals is just wrong.
Footnote: Animals are also cruelly treated for commercial purposes.
Thanks to all who to to prevent animal cruelty!

In anticipation of their FHS Debut in the next few weeks, silver tabby Gus and his brother, darker tabby Maverick, had their debut portraits taken while in the comfort of their loving foster home as well as when flying their F-14 Tomcat jets around D/FW. As expected, Gus is a little taller than Maverick and he has a longer white "blaze" on his nose. 🥰
These handsome boys are encouraging everyone to Stay Tuned for the FHS Adopt-A-Pet roster for this coming weekend so that all their FHS teammates get adopted. They'd also like you to keep your eyes on the skies for when they are scheduled to "land" at their own upcoming FHS adoption events!

June 15th is Take Your Cat to Work Day! An interesting concept, although the litter-pan-toting concept gave me "paws" in thought, and helped me decide to not frustrate my kitty in a corporate office setting. As a cat lover, I might ask my boss if I can work from home on this day,🥰 send the office a picture of me and my kitty working, and thereby give my purr'muffin quality time while I complete my work To-Do's. Some say this "holiday" was created to give cats equality with the similar dog "holiday" and that it is a "wink-wink" holiday.
Wherever you spend the day with your cat, consider keeping a scorecard to track how many kitty-inspired typos are on your work documents, for how many minutes your cat takes a nap in your lap and how many times you talk to and give your cat petting. No matter what, remember to spend quality time with your purring sweethearts today and, of course, provide them with their favoritist treats!
