Nicest and most down to earth person you could ever meet.

We geeked out about drums, snakes, his tutorial videos and how much I learned from them, and my love for his custom line of Byzance ride and hi hats (both of which I have been a proud owner of for years and still play daily 🤓).

A little - a long time ago I watched a mix tutorial by David at where he was talking about compressors and the Distressor came up - he mentioned that this compressor is so unique even to the point where the maker of it (E.L., of course) purposely masks/sands the lettering on some of the key components as to keep maintain that sort of proprietary "mystery" as to how does this thing do what it does...

fast forward a while after watching that video, and today, while rearranging some gear in my ever-growing collection/addiction of , I thought to myself "hey let's confirm this statement I remember hearing a while back" - I opened up my old trustee, Distressor, sure enough, they actually literally took the time to meticulously cover/mask/sand off some of the main. I see an integral components that make this thing such a "thing" 🤯

This particular project was a super enjoyable one, especially in that this live performance track came my way with a disclaimer repeated a couple of times by the artist, which was that he recorded this live set "haphazardly" (as he put it), using 3 microphones placed around the stage, and that he wasn't expecting to do much with this.

"Just see what you can do with it, if anything" were his exact words to me when he hired me to mix and master this recording for him.

And "do with it" I did!

We got it sounding just right for him to feel good about it, in fact he felt so good about it it that he had since released the whole EP to major streaming AND vinyl!
