Introducing Rigatoni Soprano and Sticky Rice!

Rigatoni has the most epic carapace bands we have ever seen! He is amiable and outgoing, with no signs of his namesake's anxiety. We paired him with Cha-Yen on 3/7, so are now on egg watch!

Sticky Rice has a sweet nature. She loves nothing better than to find a hollow in a hand to nestle into and nap; when it is time for her to return to her enclosure, she does all she can to resist! This (and her creamy white coloring) is why we named her Sticky Rice.

"Molts are like a box of chocolates -- you never know what you're gonna get!"

Moo-Hong's previous molt left her a dark brown with bright orange markings, whereas she came out of her most recent molt the classic regius orange. The only things that have stayed the same are her perfect heart-shaped marking, her fuchsia chelicerae, and her sweet personality.

She still has at least a couple molts to go, so who knows what colors she will end up with?

This is Cha-Yen, which is the Thai word for Thai-style tea: a strong black tea, with star anise, cardamom, vanilla, tamarind, sugar, and condensed milk, served over ice. Like her namesake, Cha-Yen is very sweet: she'll nestle in the warmth of a hand and fall asleep.

We here at Spider Walk With Me love having fun with themed names. This generation, thus far, has Moo-Deng and Pesto; their namesakes were beloved and much-memed animals in 2024.

Both also happen to be food names: "Moo-Deng" is "bouncy pork meatballs" in Thai, and Pesto is a green Italian sauce of Genoese descent. Keeping with this theme (and as an homage to the Spider Walk With Me owner's Thai heritage), the females of SWWM will have the names of whichever Thai dishes coordinate with their coloring, and the males will have Italian cuisine names.

Moo-Hong (the food) is a Southern Thai-style slow-braised pork belly stew, sweet and savory with a mildly spicy kick. Moo-Hong (the spider) is friendly, curious, and incredibly fast -- spicy and sweet, in her own way. She loves being handled, but requires one's full attention, lest she rappel down and disappear under a blanket!

Moo-Hong showing off the Bluebottle Fly she caught, before marching to the wall. She hauled it up to her hammock and had breakfast in bed!

Moo-Hong eating, after molting into her aunt Severina's mini-me.

If you look closely at the junction between her and the spike, you can see her dripping venom into it! In addition to paralyzing her prey, the venom liquifies its insides for easier slurping by the spider. Which is pretty horrifying if you think about it!

Luckily for us, Moo-Hong manages to make body horror look absolutely adorable!
