Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells. Healthy red blood cells are round and move through small vessels to carry oxygen to all parts of the body. SCD blood cells become hard and sticky and look like a C-shaped farm tool called a “sickle”.
More facts:
- It is the most common inherited blood disorder in the U.S.
- Affects approximately 100,000 Americans.
- 1 out of every 365 Black or African American babies are born with sickle cell disease.
- 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American babies are born with sickle cell disease.
- About 1 in 13 Black or African American babies are born with sickle cell trait.

Terrell green came to class today to Speak to the kids about Prevention and intervention, also business.He got one a 1on1 level with the kids, opening up to them about his mental health and how he came out a dark place. With a Entrepreneurial mindset he wrote a book,& created a platform for himself which now put him In a position to partner with companies like Checkers and Rally's AXE and MentalHealth. The kids were amazed to see someone who came from the same area they did make a impact and made generational wealth for his family.
