ART is excited to announce the completion of HeliFlight, a reconfigurable VR|MR engineering simulator, developed as a low-cost and expandable solution for rotorcraft and eVTOL design and development. VR|MR provides an immersive environment suitable for specialty aircraft simulation such as eVTOL rooftop landing, slung load operations, firefighting, emergency life support transport, and more.
The integrated simulator solution was developed in close cooperation with BRUNNER Elektronik AG and Quantuum3D. If you are interested in learning more, please visit ART's website, contact us, or visit ART's booth ( #413) at the 80th VFS Annual Forum in Montreal, QC, May 7-9, 2024.
NovaSim VR Simulator from BRUNNER used by Advanced Rotorcraft Technology (ART) as new R&D and demonstration device
California based Advanced Rotorcraft Technology will use BRUNNER’s NOVASIM Virtual Reality Full Motion Simulator in the future to demonstrate high definition Flight Dynamics Models based on their FLIGHTLABTM software. ART customers and future clients will now have the opportunity to test and fly various flight models at different model fidelities. BRUNNER’s NovaSim fulfills a long awaited need for ART and its demanding customers in the Defense, Academia, and the Civil market.
“We are proud to be working with ART, one of the leaders of rotorcraft modeling and the producer of the world renowned FLIGHTLABTM software. Partnering with ART shows the full potential of the NovaSim VR/MR which only Virtual Reality full motion simulators will reveal. From Bell407, Airbus H125, UH-60 Black Hawk and emerging eVTOL models all can be flown now on one device, which we’re very excited about”, according to Mario Ackermann, Sales & Marketing Manager at BRUNNER.
“With the NovaSim VR we at Advanced Rotorcraft Technology are able to demonstrate to our current and future customers our very accurate flight models in a totally immersive experience, for both training and engineering development. Now they have the ability to feel the difference of the flight model in use. The very smooth behavior of the Motion Platform adds important cueing to the Pilot and effectively augments the MR/VR visual display” said Ronald Du Val, President of ART.
The device is now configured as a Bell 407 Helicopter and will feature first ART’s B407 physics-based model. Other physics-based models, such the Airbus H125, UH-60 Blackhawk, customer flight models, and eVTOL models are also planned to be implemented and demonstrated. The compact and easy to reconfigure NOVASIM VR Simulator makes flight model demonstration more efficient and cost effective, either in ART’s showroom or at national and international events.
NOVASIM VR offers a stunning 360 deg full virtual external view, which lets the pilot immerse completely in the simulated environment. Integrating Varjo’s high performance “human eye resolution” HMD’s with NovaSim’s well-tuned motion algorithms make training sessions on this remarkable simulator a completely new experience, and a great addition to pilot training.
BRUNNER has a long-standing record of experience in the field of Virtual and Mixed Reality Simulators. Permanent innovation and product enhancement at a high pace is what we strive for at BRUNNER to fulfil the high expectations our customers have for our products and services. This cooperation between BRUNNER and ART is proof that Virtual and Mixed Reality Simulators are the path forward and will lead the whole simulation and training industry into an era with safer, more ecological, and more affordable training! This applies not only to big operators, but to smaller flight school operators all around the world. Visit BRUNNER online: www.brunner-innovation.swiss
With this week's release of FLIGHTLAB v3.9.2, ART has added an analysis GUI in addition to Xanalysis. FLIGHTLAB Model Analysis, or FLMA, is a graphical user interface with a number of features and utilities to support flight analysis and simulation for air vehicles such as rotorcraft, eVTOLs, and more. FLMA provides for:
* Basic analysis, including steady state and aircraft trim
* Parameter sweeps, control response, and stability tests
* GUI-supported test generation with automatic script generation; ideal for regression and certification tests
* Choice between GUI-driven test ex*****on and batch processing
* Rotor loads analysis
* Rotor modes animation
* Mission performance analysis with graphical mission profile input
* Direct access to model editor (FLME) and model viewer (FLMV)
* Improved plotting utility to support spot-checking and report-style plotting
* … additional features in future releases
FLMA’s analysis features are integrated within a graphical user interface designed to streamline analysis set-up, ex*****on, and result processing. FLMA also allows for custom analyses using scripts written in the Scope language.
An ART engineer filmed this video inspired by the daily modeling and simulation support of eVTOL aircraft design. The model shown in this demo was based on publicly available data and did not aim to represent a specific eVTOL aircraft.
