Congratulations to Cayden Geurts, son of Kari and Bill Geurts!
Last night, Cayden officially signed on with Hemlock Semiconductor as a Pipefitter/Welding Apprentice. Through the Saginaw Career Complex Welding Program, Cayden was able to get his foot in the door and begin an exciting career in the skilled trades.
After graduating just a few weeks ago, Cayden is already putting his training to work while continuing to learn through his apprenticeship program. This opportunity allows him to earn a paycheck while developing valuable skills and continuing his post-secondary education.
A special thank you to Hemlock Semiconductor for hosting a signing day event and making this day so special for Cayden, his family, and Freeland High School. It was a wonderful event and a great reminder of the opportunities available through career and technical education. Seeing a young man receive such an incredible jump start on a promising career was truly amazing.
Congratulations to Cayden on this outstanding achievement. His hard work and commitment to the skilled trades are already paying off, and his future is bright. We look forward to watching his continued success as he grows as a Pipefitter/Welding Apprentice and builds a rewarding career.

π§π₯ Cupcake Wars: Round 2! π₯π§
The ovens were hot and the creativity was flowing as Ms. Keefer's 6th Hour Foods class took their turn in the annual Cupcake Wars competition!
With new themes, different flavor combinations, and unique decorating styles, students once again demonstrated impressive baking skills while creating their cupcakes and frosting completely from scratch. From the first measured ingredient to the final decorative touch, students put their knowledge, creativity, and attention to detail on full display.
Each team brought its own personality to the challenge, designing cupcakes that were not only delicious but also visually stunning. The presentation tables were filled with colorful displays, creative themes, and plenty of friendly competition.
While the flavors and designs may have been different from Ms. Keefer's 2nd Hour class, one thing remained the same: the high level of quality, creativity, and pride shown by our students.
A huge congratulations to Ms. Keefer's 6th Hour class for another outstanding Cupcake Wars competition. What a fun and delicious way to showcase the skills they've developed throughout the year!
π§π Great job, Falcons!

πͺ΅π¨ Craftsmanship on Full Display! π¨πͺ΅
Sophomore Cam Keefer turned a beautiful piece of spalted maple into an incredible custom nightstand that looks like it belongs in a high end furniture showroom!
As part of Mr. Byrnes' Woodworking Technology class, Cam designed and built this stunning project from the ground up. Using wood generously donated by substitute teacher Josh Hescott, he transformed a unique piece of spalted maple into a functional work of art.
The nightstand features gorgeous live edge details, two large soft close drawers, and expertly crafted dovetail joinery, showcasing both skill and attention to detail. Every element reflects the patience, precision, and craftsmanship that quality woodworking demands.
As if the project wasn't impressive enough, Cam was also selected as this year's recipient of the Golden Hammer Award, presented annually to the most outstanding Woodworking Technology student. ππ¨
From concept to completion, this project demonstrates the talent, dedication, and pride that students develop in Mr. Byrnes' Woodworking Technology program. Cam's work is a perfect example of what can happen when creativity, craftsmanship, and hard work come together.
Congratulations, Cam, on an outstanding project and a well deserved honor! We can't wait to see what you build next.

Ms. Keeferβs Foods class wrapped up the year in the sweetest way possible with Cupcake Wars! π§π₯
This fan favorite challenge put students' skills to the test as they created cupcakes and frosting completely from scratch. From bold flavor combinations to eye-catching decorations, students brought creativity, teamwork, and baking expertise to every step of the process.
The presentation was just as important as taste, and students rose to the challenge with incredible themes, detailed decorations, and professional-looking displays. The classroom was filled with creativity, friendly competition, and plenty of delicious aromas as students showcased the many skills they have developed throughout the year.
What a fun and delicious way to finish the school year and celebrate all of their hard work. Great job, Falcons! π§π

Six of our Freeland Falcons finished their year at the State St. Linemen School.
Our CTE Lineman program is a pioneering initiative, only the second of its kind in the state. It serves as an important bridge between high school and apprenticeship, giving students hands-on experience, specialized knowledge, and a head start in the skilled trades.
This program is not easy, but our students shined. At their ceremony, they showcased what they learned by demonstrating how to repair and fix a downed wire, a real-world task they may face in the field. Completing this program also gives students the opportunity to potentially fast-track their path toward joining the IBEW union.
Congratulations to our Falcons, pictured left to right: Brigham Smith, Caeleb Varney, Robbie Mularz, Carter Williamson, Blake Hendricks, and Joey Langley.
We are proud of you!

Painting with Ink, Freeland High School's Literary-Art Club, has officially wrapped up an incredible 25-26 season filled with many milestones.
As announced earlier this year, the 2025 issue brought home the prestigious NCTE First Class Award, marking our second consecutive year winning this incredible honor. Building on that momentum, our talented creators spent their time exploring the theme "What Makes Us Human?" through art and writing projects, breaking up their hard work with an inspiring field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts, guest speakers, and more.
Last week, we capped off the year by celebrating our wonderful seniors, some of whom have been dedicated members of the club since 7th grade, with a well-deserved party and awards ceremony. We are incredibly proud of these amazing young writers and artists, and we wish them the absolute best as they begin their next chapters beyond FHS!
This year's issue is on sale in the front office, at lunches, or by contacting Mrs. Howson. Get your copy today before they sell out!
