William Dorsey Swann or Queenie Swann as he was known by his peers was Drag Queen and LGBTQIA+ Activist. He was born into slavery in 1860 on a plantation in Hancock, Maryland (Washington County). He was the life of the party and was known for events where everyone displayed their talents. His "galas" as they were known, were raided by the police on more than one occasion, which resulted in him serving time in jail.

Frances Thompson was a transwoman from Tennessee. Born into slavery but later freed. She was recognized as a woman. She was an activist and provided testimony for the Memphis Riots.

Q***r Culture Trivia Night with Chasity Vain brings the fun AND the purpose, every $15 ticket goes toward supporting The Frederick Center, Frederick’s hub for LGBTQIA+ resources, community, and advocacy.

Hosted by the brilliant Miss Gay Maryland America, Chasity Vain, the night features rounds on drag herstory, Pride milestones, q***r anthems, and more, with prizes for the top teams.

Tonight’s Q***r Open Mic was one for the books!! We had pianists, a harpist, spoken word, guitar players, country music, folk songs, a Chappell Roan cover on the cello, and some of our own staff up on the stage! Thank you to all who came out to perform, those who supported, and everyone who gathered to share in q***r art and joy together. Happy Pride!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💜
