This week we hit a quick pause on the paperwork, phone calls, reports, and spreadsheets to celebrate some of the people who keep the Frederick Police Department running every single day... our civilian employees!

While officers may be the faces you see out in the community, it takes an incredible team working behind the scenes to keep everything moving. From records and communications to administrative support and countless other roles, our civilian staff are the unsung heroes of FPD.

Thank you to all of our civilian employees for your hard work and dedication. 💙

And a special shoutout to Jenn Chinn and Ashley DiMaggio for putting together a fantastic Employee Appreciation Lunch. Great food, great company, and a great reminder of how lucky we are to have such an amazing team.

One of the most anticipated sessions of this year's Chief's Community Advisory Board did not disappoint!

Faith leaders, educators, business professionals, and community partners joined us at the Frederick Police Academy to learn about our Special Response Team, Drone Team, and K9 Team through live demonstrations and conversations with the officers behind these specialized units.

This team is called upon during some of the most critical incidents our community may face. Last night's session gave attendees a firsthand look at the training, teamwork, and capabilities that help keep our community safe.

Thank you to our CCAB members for spending the evening with us and to our SRT, Drone, and K9 teams for sharing what they do best.

📸 Check out some highlights from a crowd-favorite evening.

Some awards come from within the profession. Others come from the people we serve.

Last night, A/Sergeant Jestin Joseph was recognized by the American Legion Francis Scott Key Post 11 as their Officer of the Year, an honor that reflects not only his commitment to law enforcement, but the impact he has made throughout our community.

A/Sgt. Joseph currently supervises our midnight shift, G-Squad, where he sets the tone for professionalism, accountability, and service during some of the city's busiest overnight hours.

A/Sgt. Joseph also serves as a member of the Frederick Police Department's UAS (Drone) Unit, providing valuable aerial support during searches, investigations, and public safety operations.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it comes from community members who recognize the difference one officer can make through dedication, character, and service.

👏 Congratulations, Jestin!

Frederick, let's settle a common crosswalk question.

You've probably seen it.... a pedestrian is waiting at a crosswalk.

One driver stops while another keeps going. Someone throws their hands up wondering who's wrong.

Here's the part many people don't know:

Maryland law requires drivers to stop for pedestrians who are within the crosswalk. A person waiting on the sidewalk does not automatically have the right-of-way.

No matter which side of the crosswalk you're on, a little patience and awareness go a long way. Summer is here. More people are walking, kids are outside.

Let's look out for each other.
