My son Lorenzo recorded this video on his own while I was with a client the other day! In this short video you can find a few suggestions about kids’ safety if you have a high drive dog and you choose to let your kid play with them. In this case Lorenzo was playing with our Blue Heeler, Rip, who is a very physical, lightning quick, and athletic dog who is what I would call a “launcher”.

As always, especially with a high drive dog…the foundation needs to be laid first and then verified. Then you can scaffold creatively from there. Lorenzo loves working our dogs, so I’ve taught him a lot of safety protocols….this is something well-practiced and not new for him.

Listen to “Rip-a-doodle / Rippers / Rip Bocelli” and reach out for a different approach to training where your dog can break rules when helpful to their needs (believe it or not)!!!

Focus on one at a time, build the relationships. Especially if one of yours is a bit too reactive or has high prey drive, etc…because often, the energy will multiply…
