Our first honey harvest!! Thank you to BC Honey Hives and Dahlia for teaching us how this works and to our friends the George's for letting us borrow their extractor! About 3.5 gallons from one hive (mid season). This is so interesting and a lot of work 😀. Honey is very sticky so clean up needed hot water. Cate's accessible shower was very helpful.

13 days since we added the additional boxes (called supers). The "Super Queen" hive has filled the hive with so much honey I will need to extract the honey in the next 2 weeks and let them keep going. So much flowering alfalfa across the street! Hive #2 is happy and working hard as well.

Helpers today were Claramae and my friend Teresa.

More things are happening here at the ranch! Getting brooders ready for our baby chicks arriving soon. We are getting 30 cornish cross meat birds. A full freezer in 6-7 weeks. More photos to come!

Also, new water line and power lines going in for 3 more RV hook ups and horse automatic water troughs.

It was time for a bee check and the kids got their first bee lesson! Robert with BC Honey Hives is amazing! Our bees are so happy that they made honey comb and honey in their feeder. Now they have "super" boxes to make more honey. The bees love the alfalfa fields across the street.

Day 2: The bees needed to be fed one more time before summer. I gave each hive 1 gallon of one-to-one sugar water. My self photography skills in the field need to improve but here it is 😀. The girls were a little more fiesty today, but still gentle.

We hosted a wonderful Easter Egg hunt at the ranch this year. It is our way to give back to the community and give our friends with special needs a place to enjoy themselves. Thank you to Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center for helping us put on the hunt this year!
