CMG Client Diana Butler Bass posted this quote from Madeleine L'Engle, which speaks to the Advent season—

Advent begins.

It begins in the dark, an uneasy silence, a groaning for a better world. A single candle lit against the long night.

An appropriate spiritual season for right now.

And yet…

“My child, do not despair. Do you think we would have brought you here if there were no hope? We are asking you to do a difficult thing, but we are confident that you can do it.”

Chaffee Management Group's client, Rev. Jennifer Bulter, did not mince words during her keynote address to the 35th General Synod of the United Church of Christ where she received a rousing standing ovation for her keynote "The Bible is a Handbook for Resisting Tyranny," where she challenged the audience to reclaim faith from the grip of rising Christian nationalism — a movement that distorts both democracy and the Gospel.

Authoritarianism thrives when we stop believing we have a choice. But Scripture insists: another world is possible.

Throughout history, people of faith have risen to that call:
✦ Abolitionists reclaimed faith from the hands of slavery.
✦ Righteous Christians hid Jews from the N***s.
✦ Civil rights leaders reclaimed faith from the grip of segregation.

And now, it’s our turn! Here's A great summary by UCC news and clip of the speech:

Stories are alive--and shape our personal and collective identities, for better and worse.

In Everything Is a Story, award-winning Indigenous author Kaitlin B. Curtice considers how stories take root in our lives like an acorn becoming an oak tree. Following a story's life cycle, Curtice explores how narratives shape both our inner lives and broader communities. Which stories should we pass on to future generations--and which can we finally let go?

This book invites readers to explore the power of story to liberate or limit, to build compassion or create division. With gentle insight that speaks to people across the spiritual spectrum, Curtice guides us through the art of storytelling as a path toward healing and connection.

With contemplative poetry woven throughout and a foreword by Simran Jeet Singh, Everything Is a Story offers a hope-filled framework for reshaping our lives by reclaiming stories of courage, wholeness, and deep-rooted compassion.
