“91!”

That’s what this adorable woman yelled at me when we crossed paths on the fire tower trail in Blowing Rock, NC.

Today I met Betty Joe!

She was a human exclamation point.

When I paused at her declaration to me she explained, “I’m 91 years old!”

“And you’re on this trail today? Let’s go!” I said, high fiving her.

Older generations are time machines.

They’ve been to the future you want to visit someday and will tell you how they did it if you ask.

Betty Joe’s secret?

People.

“Talk to everyone. People keep you alive.”

Amen Betty Joe.

Here’s to us all becoming 91 year olds who hike up mountains and talk to handsome strangers when given the chance. (Probably what she was thinking.)
