Do you ever hesitate to post? I do… all the time. I was just having this discussion with another Pilates instructor. I would much rather just teach. I love teaching and often get so consumed by it that another day goes by and posting gets pushed down on the to do list. Having a business teaching Pilates requires social media and yes I know there are so many positives (love our community) that can come from it….but in my anxious pre-posting moments, when I’m sweating 🥵 before I press share these are just some of the many thoughts running through my head even after all these years of teaching.
💬 Is my form on point, could it be better, do I like what I’m wearing, is the lighting right, what is in the frame, does this represent the business in the best way, is someone going to call me out for this or that but then I remember Pilates is a practice (hence our studio name) and we are all working on something or just trying to get through the day and Pilates helps. 💙
In this session I was tired and feeling tight (for me) but I chose to press share anyway because our studio has always been about “the work” and here I am working hard in my private session just like we make our clients do in every one of their sessions. 💪 Exercise: Tree with the Roll Back Bar.

What a well trained and experienced Pilates teacher will do for you in a private session; encourage, progress, refine and challenge. Individualized instruction that take the exercises to the next level in your body. In the exercise rowing 90 degrees, with instruction, you see the adjustments being made in real time, above the body goes back further in the hinge, elbows, forearms and back lift to create the lifted shape without the back arching and the powerhouse assists to lift the spine more with encouragement. When looking for a studio or instructor do your research. Ask questions…. Where did they train and who did they train with? How long was their program and how many hours did it require? Was it in person? Do they continue to take lessons and continue their professional education? How long have they been teaching for? Know your teacher.

Proper form is our thing…. A few tips for Up Stretch on the reformer:
👍Pro tip: Press back and not down to initiate the movement. It’s the stomach muscles and HIPS (powerhouse muscles) that are the key here and throughout the ex*****on of this exercise.
👎Pitfalls: pushing out with the arms, sinking in the low back and tucking the pelvis.
Remember 🚫 No piking the hips on the return.
👍Instead deepen the c-curve and articulate the spine to return to start.
