The kids have had a TON of appointments this week, which means I was doing that when I normally am working so now I'm up night planting. I'm wore out, but super thankful I have a job that I can flex when my kids need me.
I'm watching TV on YouTube as I plant, and keep getting commercials from my seed company.. "Most people don't know that you can grow microgreens at home," she says every time. Lady I PROMISE you I know that. π€£π€£ Especially right this minute.
The cats are supervising of course to make sure I stay awake and don't screw anything up. Pups too. And the night is offering some lovely cool weather. β₯οΈπ±

Honestly y'all, most of the best things in my life have come from the farmers market. For real.
I know I'm always talking about all the amazing goodies we bring home, but what I don't talk about enough is the connections. And those are even more valuable than the goods. β€οΈ
Did you know I found my bestie at the market? Well, she found me and yelled at me a minute and then became my customer and THEN we became best friends. But that's another story. A lot of my other close friends have come from there, too. And my kids friends. And my tree guys, which is what this post is about.π΄
A lot of us vendors have worked together at several markets, and grown up together in a sense. Some of us have known each other for years or decades. I first met Kat of Wonkey Donkey Delectables maybe 5 years ago at the High Springs farmers market, and we became vendor friends, then actual friends. One day after Hurricane Helene she came over to pick up some rabbits from me and we got to talking about all the trees I needed dealt with from the storm and don't you know it, her husband James owns a tree business. That she works too because she's a giant badass. They gave me the best quote so I hired them and y'all the work that they did. π
I am so picky. You guys know this, because you buy my microgreens every week and ask me how I grow them so well and literally this is the answer. I am picky as all get out. I am nuanced and into every last detail. And if you couldn't guess it, this does sometimes make me hard to work for. I'm a bit of a perfectionist.
But so are they. π₯° They honestly went above and beyond everything I asked for, and cleaned up SO WELL after you wouldn't have even known they were here. I've lived in the woods for 15 years and I've had a lot of tree guys. Some were bad, some were fine. No one has done even close to the level of quality work that they did though.
Beyond that, James was so good at spotting problems, and so honest about stuff that I thought might be a problem but actually wasn't. And he was so nice about answering all my 8 million questions. Everything he said then has proved true, and I could tell then from his knowledge that he was great at his job, before he even turned a machine on.
So anyway our driveway has been looking like a whole mess and barely even letting us out these days, so I called Kat back and got a quote, and had them come out and take care of it. Best monies Ive spent all month. And I hate spending money.
Look at how much better this looks!! π Y'all they did it again. They did exactly what I wanted, cleaned up all the mess after, and got the sides all down to a level that I can mow again and maintain myself moving forward. James even came up the drive and did this little spot in my yard that I did not ask or pay him to do. But I had told him I threw my mower belt there a few weeks ago because it was so rough, so he figured he'd clear it for me so it didn't happen again. Y'all this man is a peach.
If you are in need of a tree service or bush hog work, I literally cannot recommend these guys enough. π΄β€οΈ
And if it wasn't for the market, I would have never even found them. So many things in my life have been like that. The farmers markets are where we meet our community and grow our friendships and make new contacts. Like I said, the connections are even better than the goods half the time - and that's really saying something!
Jolly Logger Tree Co if you want to give them a follow and save their number for when you need it.

So we compromised and I put my planting table over the hole. I'm still not a huge fan though, as they are expanding their territory daily and I've had a few close calls and almost ended up in the hole myself. If I show up to the market one day with a twisted ankle, you'll know why. π¬πΆ

π€© Y'all I swear I made and ordered this flag banner half asleep last week in the witching hour and I've low key been kinda scared for it to arrive because what did I do but LOOK! π She's so pretty!! πππ

ππ± It's raining outside, but it sure is bright and pretty in the nursery. Everything is looking great for this coming weekend. π€©
Find us at Alachua County Farmers' Market in our usual spot - If these trays all keep it up I think this will be the week we finally bring that second tent. I got a new banner too. π
Sunflowers are rocking and should be restocked heavy at the market finally and also at Ward's Supermarket. π±
I have another new variety this week too! Can you spot it in the bottom left corner? I bet you'll never guess what it is. More info coming soon!

π New Microgreen Variety - Purple Kohlrabi! π
This tray here is growing for Saturday at Alachua County Farmers' Market, and I love the.way it's coming up so far. π
Purple Kohlrabi has a mild flavor and deep dark stems, similar to that Purple Cabbage or other Brassicas. It's also packed full of Vitamin C, A & K, as well as essential minerals and antioxidants.
Come sample some this weekend while it lasts! π±

Yesterday was a long day, y'all. I came home after working 9 hours on my feet and put in another 4 washing and planting more trays for next week. π±
I have 35 trays on the shelves right now. π³
I also got super spoiled at the Alachua County Farmers' Market though and came home with a ton of goodies. π So don't feel too bad for me.
Now that I have extra (stellar) help at the market, I'm getting a lot more cut in the morning before that bell rings. And y'all have said NO to that summer slowdown and you are coming for them. π You grabbed them 5 at a time and I kept cutting and by 10:30 we were sold completely out. β€οΈ
That's my favorite and always the goal, but I hate when I have to turn you down and make you sad. So I came home and pumped out some extras.
Most of what I planted yesterday was Salad & Rainbow Mix! π Hopefully we can make it last a little longer on the table.
And I hear you on the Broccoli! π₯¦ I planted more of that too and have 5 trays coming next week!
Sunflower microgreens will be back in stock too! π»
I'm wore out today and besides a lovely dip in the springs, I've mostly been resting on the couch. And eating this Cinnamon Raisin Bread that Laughing Chicken Farm gave me because she knows it's my absolute favorite. π I've only had it 3 times today but it's my day off so I think it's fine.
We've also eaten all the cherry tomatoes because why would we not do that. Don't get me talking about farm fresh maters I'll be here all day. I don't even do anything with the cherry ones; we just eat them every time we walk by the table until they're gone. π€·πΌββοΈ
I don't know the variety of these ones but they're nearly as good as the Sungolds, which is really saying something. All veggies pictured came from our favorites at Promised Land. I love how I can always tell what season it is by what produce is on my counter. Eating locally and seasonally is a gift, and this level of freshness and flavor is another. β€οΈ
I grabbed a baguette from Heidi's Cottage Bakery too, and a pack of buns. I've said it before but her baguettes are out of this world. Like no other. π€©
And just LOOOOOOK at this gorgeous purple Passionflower that I picked up from Grassroots Nursery. ππ I had one of these decades ago when I lived on the beach. It's a host plant for Swallowtails, shoots out new flowers daily, and is so fun to watch. I've wanted another ever since. I got one from Lowes quite a few years back but it died π because hardware store plants. But this one. This beauty is going to do great things and live here a long time. She's huge and so healthy and I'm soooo excited to get her in the ground.
Anyway, yesterday's market was another great one. Y'all are awesome and seeing you makes my whole week. It really does. Please come see me next Saturday too because I'm bringing a literal boatload of greens for y'all. π±π«£
Thanks for everything. Love y'all, mean it. π«ΆπΌ

So I'm no doctor, and this is not medical advice. But I've been meaning to make this post for a long time, because it's huge info for some folks and needs to be shared.
I had a customer tell me a while back that she had Colitis and couldn't eat any leafy greens. As in, her doctor told her not to but also she literally couldn't consume them without pain and problems.
Ok that's not the huge part that's just the backstory. The huge part is that she is MY customer, then and now still, and I sell leafy greens. π³
She told me that the microgreens do NOT bother her. Not a lick. Their young and tender nature makes them much easier to digest, and they actually are often well tolerated by folks with Crohn's and Colitis. In fact, the high presence of anti-oxidants, polyphenols and glucosinolate can actually help REDUCE oxidative stress and relieve gut inflammation! Meaning they are not just tolerated, they are helping. β€οΈπ±
I had no idea until she told me. Y'all this lady can now eat greens again when she hadn't for so long! π
Her excitement really made my heart burst. Still does.
Anyway if this is you too, check with your doctor and make your own medical choices because I am just a farmer. But maybe also try some microgreens and see how you do. You may be able to bring greens back into your life, too. π
