Wags & Wiggles Rescue
Non profit, home foster based Rescue for dogs in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
We do not have a facility and rely on donations and people opening their hearts and homes to foster a dog.

We want to be transparent with our supporters about the reality of rescue work. When volunteers trap stray dogs in the community, rescues are responsible for paying for all veterinary care, vaccines, testing, and spay/neuter costs before those dogs can leave the shelter to enter our program — and those costs are often MORE than the public adoption fee through the shelter.
These two invoices are for just FOUR dogs that volunteers caught, totaling nearly $1,000 before ongoing care even begins. This is not a complaint toward our local shelter — open-intake shelters are overwhelmed too. We simply want the community to better understand the financial side of rescue work. NOTHING is free!
The BEST way to help us avoid these dogs entering the shelter system is fostering. If we have foster homes immediately available, we can sometimes keep dogs out of the shelter environment altogether. Then we can use our other resources such as donated grooms, discounted vaccines and surgeries which helps cut cost.

If you've ever thought, "I wish I had a 60+ pound bulldog-shaped wrecking ball of happiness in my life," then Tonka may be your guy.
Tonka approaches every day with the energy of someone who just won the lottery and drank three cups of coffee. His hobbies include enthusiastically greeting people, enthusiastically playing with dogs, and enthusiastically forgetting that he weighs over 60 pounds.
Because personal space is merely a suggestion to Tonka, he's looking for a home with kids 12 and older. It's not that he doesn't love little ones—he absolutely does—but his signature move is the full-speed bulldog greeting, which can accidentally turn a toddler into a speed bump.
Tonka gets along well with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine friend to share his adventures (and occasional zoomies) with.
As a proud brachycephalic gentleman, Tonka comes with one very important housing requirement: central air conditioning. This handsome squish-faced fellow takes his climate control seriously and is seeking a home where summer is enjoyed from the comfort of cool, conditioned air—not while pretending to be a melting potato on the patio.
If you're looking for a dog who will fill your home with laughter, love, snorts, snores, and the occasional accidental hip-check, Tonka is ready to roll into your life and claim a spot on your couch (and possibly your lap).
Apply today and discover why life is simply more fun with a Tonka-sized bulldog.

We’re seeing a heartbreaking rise in dumped, abandoned, and unclaimed dogs in our area. In less than two weeks alone, we’ve taken in 6 community-trapped dogs. These are dogs Lost dogs of Fort Wayne traps and no owner is found. To clarify found reports are made and these pups all went through the proper stray hold. We make extensive efforts to locate owners.
We want to ask the public: why do you think this is happening?
One issue we’re seeing more often is microchips that are unregistered or have outdated information. A microchip only works if it’s registered with current contact details.
Please check:
• Is your pet microchipped?
• Is the chip registered?
• Is your contact information up to date?
We’d also love your thoughts:
• Is the economy a factor?
• Housing issues?
• Lack of affordable vet care?
• Behavioral challenges/ afraid of using the shelter
• People underestimating the commitment of pet ownership?
This isn’t about shame — we truly want to understand what’s happening in our community as shelters, rescues, and animal welfare workers become overwhelmed.
Please keep comments respectful. We’d love to hear your perspective.
Below are some of our most recent community dogs who are or will be available soon!
LOKI: GOD OF MISCHIEF, PROFESSIONAL VELCRO DOG, AND CERTIFIED GIANT BABY
When Loki was adopted as a puppy, everyone thought he’d grow into a majestic giant. And he did. What nobody realized was that he’d also grow into a giant who believes his people should remain within petting distance at all times.
Loki recently returned to rescue after struggling with separation anxiety. His family experienced some big changes when both his favorite human friend and his dog buddy moved out of the home, and the loss of his daily companions made his anxiety much worse. Being left alone became incredibly stressful for him, and he had a hard time coping.
But here’s the thing: Loki isn’t a bad dog. He’s actually a sweet, goofy, affectionate mastiff mix who loves his people with every ounce of his oversized body. He forms strong bonds, wants to be included in everything, and is happiest when he’s surrounded by those he loves.
Loki is looking for a home that understands his needs and is committed to helping him continue building confidence. A family with patience, consistency, and plenty of companionship would be ideal. He’d thrive with people who are home often and willing to help him learn that being alone isn’t so scary.
As a bonus, this gentle giant is good with other dogs, good with cats, and has never met a couch he didn’t think was made specifically for him.
If you’ve ever wanted a shadow the size of a small horse, a snuggle buddy with zero concept of personal space, and a dog who will love you with his whole heart, Loki might be your perfect match.

When Wren first arrived in rescue (on May the Fourth,) she was little more than skin and bones—emaciated, unsure, and wondering where her next meal would come from. 💔
Today, this beautiful tan German Shepherd/Lab (we think) mix is blossoming into a confident, friendly girl who greets life with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart. She’s gaining weight, making friends, and learning that she never has to face the galaxy alone again.
Wren, the force is finally with you. ✨
Now she just needs a forever family to help her continue the rebellion against empty food bowls and show her that the good life is here to stay. ❤️
